Any other prospective BU transfers for Spring 2021 out there? I decided to start this thread because I didn’t see one yet. I’m hoping this could be a place where we share stats and post about our BU transfer process!
I’m strongly considering transferring spring 2021! Really hope I can get in!
@karpem you should totally go for it! What are your stats if you don’t mind sharing?
I’m a freshman so my stats are a little different.
HS GPA: 3.3
Mid-Term College GPA: 3.94
Plus numerous extracurriculars both in hs and college.
I’m debating whether or not to apply for spring semester or next fall. The thing is I really want to transfer cause I don’t really like where I am, but I also really want to get into BU. Just cause my high school gpa isn’t the strongest. Lots to consider I guess.
What about you?
@karpem
Your stats are similar to mine, but higher!
HS GPA: ~3.2
College GPA (after 1 year): 3.9
Also many ec’s, my college ones are related to my major.
I think that maybe having the final grades (instead of just mid-term grades) for this semester would be really help your chances. The more classes you take in college, the less they consider your high school GPA! I think if you could wait to apply for the fall semester, you would have a very good chance of getting in as a transfer!!
Also, less people apply for spring transfer and I’m not quite sure about this, but I’ve heard admissions may be more competitive for the spring. Since less people transfer in the spring, it might be harder to transition socially as well.
I am really only applying for spring because I’m a sophomore with 60 credits (not including the ones for this semester) and there is usually a cap for credits transferring over so I don’t want to “lose” my credits" and basically pay for more than I have to.
Unless you are really miserable at your current university, I would wait a semester, but that’s just my advice!
I’m also a freshman who wants to transfer into BU. However I learned a couple weeks ago that previous applicants have to “complete a full academic year elsewhere” before applying as transfer. So much has changed because of corona that I thought of emailing them if it would be possible to apply as a freshman, but I’m pretty sure that they won’t make any exceptions. So now I planning to apply in the spring.
Anyone receive their portal info? I received the acknowledgment email that they got my application but no portal yet!
I haven’t gotten my portal stuff in yet either! Starting to get real nervous about everything my stats are not as great
I’m a little worried because of corona my university had the pass/fail option and I’m nervous that they will look at those classes that I did pass/fail for and not be so happy about it. Anyone else here have not so great stats like current college gpa is under 3.5? I had a lot of reccomendations from professors so maybe that will help and potentially my essay could help as well?
I just attended a virtual transfer fair and the admissions rep said they will not be holding spring 2020 pass/fail against the students
Im not sure if they meant if the school only offered p/f they wouldn’t hold it against you or if your school gave you the letter grade or the p/f option, and you chose p/f
@nontradishbish I feel much better now, thank you. Do you know when the next virtual fair is if there is another one? What goes on when you do attend one?
Personally I’ve heard that it’s easier to get in in the spring time due to (1) now since covid they will be wanting more students and (2) because during this time around the number of students accepted don’t weigh as much on their stats as much as fall would because more students apply in the fall if that makes sense. I could be wrong tho and that could just be me being hopeful too.
Check out NACAC Virtual College fair (I found out from the Common App) and see if they have any upcoming ones. The fair was a zoom call and they went over the same presentation as they do on the in-person tour. Plus, q+a in the chat, which was nice.
Did anyone else just get their portal? I did and some of the docs that I already sent in are showing up as still outstanding. Hoping it just needs to update.
Okay I will check it out, thank you! and yes I did get my portal and what do you mean by still outstanding? I’m looking at mine now and it doesn’t say that anywhere. What did you submit already if you don’t mind me asking
I am so behind oh my gosh, I have yet to send in my application or ask for my rec lettters. But it makes me feel better that I’m not the only one worried about the pass fail situation.
@kam2001 you should ask for your rec letters as soon as possible, some professors might turn it down because of the last minute request! No rush to submit your application though you have time! I just sent mine in early bc I had a head start and got everything done quicker than I thought I would!
@fran1234567 If you go to the “Application Status” page, there is a list of documents like HS transcript, College Transcript, College Report, etc and it shows if they have been received or not. I had already sent in my college report( I was cc’d on the email from my colleges admin department) and sent my college transcript through the Common App, but they still appear that I need to complete them. There is also the syllabus dropbox for you to upload every.single.sylabus that you want transfer credit for. I’d start early, because that sounds like a project haha
I was wondering if spring was going to easier to be accepted. You made some great points. I am worried about students who deferred for a semester are now going to all rush to apply for Spring '21 but since covid isn’t going anywhere, that seems unlikely.
I also never shared my stats:
27 years old, 4.0/4.0 from a local CC, will have associates when I transfer, limited ECs (1 semester of student gov, 1 semester of PTK leadership), 3 honors projects (additional work that gains you “honors” in w/e course you did it in), 2 great letters of rec, HORRIBLE HS record from 10 years ago
@fran1234567 yes haha i hope i am able to ask for my recommendations today it is just super awkward asking during this whole online zoom mess and asking teachers you haven’t talked to for a while.
@nontradishbish for mine it doesn’t say received but it said which high school it came from and what university it came from but it only says more details next to it. But I’m assuming that means that they got it. Also, you should email admissions and make sure they got your transcripts and stuff because they had a little mix up with mine so I’m glad I reached out to them to clear it out! It doesn’t hurt and they answer quite quickly when they’re open!
About your deferral, do they let students defer from fall? I know they are very strict about not letting students defer once they have applied for a spring semester especially as a transfer.
