So BU is my backup school. In addition to BU I’m applying to schools like Harvard, Columbia, Dartmouth, Swarthmore, etc. On the supplement it asks to list the schools that I’m applying to. Would you recommend me putting down all the schools I’m applying to (where they would see that BU is clearly my backup), or should I just leave it blank?

This may not make any difference whatsoever, but does anyone have any insight into this? Thanks a lot!

My son is applying to 15 or so schools, so we don’t list every single one when asked. However, we do list a few depending on space allowed. One or two for each reach, match and safety is reasonable. They just want to know who their competition is. I don’t think it impacts their decision, but leaving it blank is not a good idea.

I have no idea how listing other colleges will affect your chances but I always thought of it this way: seeing that you are applying to other prestigious colleges, wouldn’t they would try to buy you out with scholarships and such?

this part is only for statistical purposes, so list all that you can fit. It won’t affect your chance of admissions.

I was in the same situation; I’m applying to BU and then many Ivies. I ultimately figured that space was probably just for statistical purposes. And, if not, it could only help me by making them try to buy me out with scholarship money :)

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the responses
