I’ve been admitted to both schools and just want to know people’s opinions on them. I used to think that I wanted to go into international studies/political science, but now I’m leaning more towards history and/or business administration. Which school do you think offers stronger programs in these areas? What are some pros and cons for both of these schools? Are there good internship opportunities at both schools?
I’m not sure why you’re asking this question.
I applied to both of these colleges this year myself. There is no early action at either college, simply Early Decision then Regular Decision or Early Decision 2.
You can’t apply early decision 1 to two schools at once. That is the only way you would’ve been notified of your status this quickly.
But I will play along and assume you applied Regular Decision and that the colleges have replied weirdly fast and will send me my acceptance/rejection letters soon. I’m going to give my input.
American University is a beautiful school with a great campus but there is one large problem: It simply is not prestigious enough. It’s rankings are low, and the college itself isn’t competitive besides short-term internship opportunities.
Boston University: Will be an excellent choice no matter what you major in. It’s in a beautiful area of the wealthier part of Boston, has a great business school and political science AND international affairs program.
In all honesty, go to Boston. It’s a much better college for everything except international affairs, but American is a worse college by an extreme degree making its one high point irrelevant.
I went to BU for a year. I then transferred to a university near DC. I was much happier when I transferred and never ever regretted the transfer.
“American is a worse college by an extreme degree making its one high point irrelevant.”
This is an exaggeration. There isn’t that wide a difference between the two.
