Boston University vs Jacobs University

Hey CC'ers,
despite being rejected by nearly every school I applied to (international student with financial need), I am happy being offered the most prestigous merit scholarships at two awesome colleges: Boston University in MA and Jacobs University in Germany.

Although I intended to go the US for college, I am not so sure anymore, and I would appreciate any help to fix this mess in my brain.

Myself:
Computer Science/engineering Major, Low-income-family, wants to have a great time in college with academic and social life in equilibrium, coming from Berlin, Germany.

Boston University:
BU is located right in the center of a great college town, a lot of students to meet, "social" dorms, many clubs and activities, a lot of academic oppurtunities. With the Trustee Scholarship and an invitation to the new University Honors College, I guess the last point even get bigger.
However, BU is a mass university, and I still don't know, whether I feel comfortable with this fact.
In either way, BU would be the more adventurous, but also more expensive choice.

Jacobs University,
Jacobs is a small american-style liberal arts college near the small town Bremen. It is still pretty young, but for its age, it already has a great reputation with a lot of students going to top grad schools. Jacobs only has 1600 students, so a small fraction of BU's student population. Jacobs also has more of a campus feeling (the campus loooks great). Naturally, academic advising and supervision is much better than at BU I think. However, workload is tough, as the 4-year curriculum from Rice University has been condensed to the European 3 years.
The facilities and residential colleges are in great shape and the students@Jacobs are highly motivated. A small portion of social elitarism is not neglectible.
Jacobs seems to be the more down-to-earth and secure choice, where my heart currently leans to.

Tough decision.
Thanks for your help

Nam

I have many friends already at Jacobs and lots that are going to attend and I only know a person who is going to attend BU. I know that the majors you are interested into are one of the best at Jacobs because they got a great review recently for them. I also think that Jacobs has a friendlier atmosphere than BU and all the people I know that go there are really happy with their decision. It’s also ok for you because it’s closer to home, after all, it would be really hard to visit your family frequently from the USA. Also, after studying at Jacobs you can go to a top grad school in the USA if you still want to live there.

And about the workload, I believe that everyone who wants to learn and get good grades can do it. Considering the personal interaction and dedication of teachers it’s impossible not to understand and be eager to learn more.

I also know that they have great dorms and food and lots of social activities.

Hope this helps.

But on the other hand, Bremen sucks…

yeah, i guess choosing Bremen can’t be really wrong and Bremen doesn’t really suck … the question is whether Boston may be the better and more adventorous choice, but I can’t really tell, I realy have no clue what I can expect at BU

tobiz.int it’s important to give arguments. Why do you think that?

so where did you finally went, and in your experience which university is good for MS ?
