Summer College Courses | High School Honors Program Students | Boston University Summer Term

@yank: Here's a course listing

u guise all applied to the high school thing?
who applied to the internship

@alexc91- oh, cool. I might take Financial Analysis instead of Com Sci...not sure yet
so are you definitely going or are you applying anywhere else?
no one I know is applying. but I don't think they're all that selective.
still can't wait though! miles away from home sounds heaps awesome :D

@tomjones- yeah, the internship seems like a bit of a rip-off. paying $3.5k to do research for a university doesn't seem right. most programs even give stipends.

@tokyogurl: Yes, I'm 100% going. It was the only program I applied to. And this is the longest I'll have ever been away from my parents (and in a major city, no less), so I'm excited to see what it's like.

Hey, i am thinking of applying to the summer honors program, but $6500 is a lot.
Does anybody know how generously they give aid? It says they give merit/need based aid...and I think I definitely would get merit.
I really want to take the biology courses. One of them is taught by the guy who co-wrote my textbook for AP Bio.

@alexc91- yeah, a month and a half is a pretty long time hey. I wonder how much free time we'll be getting. I mean, we get a lot of free time out of classes, but I hope we don't get much homework to compensate for that =/

@sethorama- not sure, I'm an international student. maybe you should give them a call.

tokyogurl, you got in?
what are your credentials like?
Did you get any money from them?

Hey everyone, hopefully I'll be seeing you all this summer!
I was wondering if anyone knows how selective the program is?
Do they actually deny people, or is it more of a "if you can breathe, have decent grades + the money you're in" thing, like most of these programs?
I'm hoping the second, apush is killing my gpa!

I have the feeling it's more like the second one, but if you're grossly unqualified they'll reject you.

APUSH probably won't hurt you, I bombed a marking period of Algebra II and a marking period of French and I still got in.

@sethoramma- Yeah, I got in. I couldn't apply for financial aid, though, since I'm an international student.
As for my credentials...
-SAT: 2100 (750 math, 700 critical reading, 650 writing)
-PSAT: 205 (72 math, 68 critical reading, 65 writing)
-Personal Statement: was alright. I tried my best to demonstrate my interest.
-Teacher Recommendations: were awesome, hehe. I picked teachers who knew me best
-Grades: IB Diploma Candidate, got a predicted 39/42 for my fall transcript. School provides neither GPA nor Class Rank.

@blondie- I don't think it's that difficult to get in. I mean, the website does say they pick 70 students, but their app deadline is on May. I suppose that shows how many people are actually interested to go to this program.

Wow, that's pretty good for your SAT. I am taking it again next saturday, i got a 2000 my first time and a 202 on my PSAT. I did well on my ACT--32.
My grades are fine, I have 3 AP's, and I'm 1/734 at my school.
Im positive I'd get in. It sucks that these programs are so expensive.
Hopefully my parents dont make too much to get aid.
I'm hoping I could apply for the trustee scholarship when I apply to BU, as long as I get my SAT up.

Your ACT's heaps good. Yeah, it was my first time to take the SAT as well- taking it again on May. good luck on your retaking (:
1 out of 734? You're definitely getting in.

I know yeah? Boston was one of the cheapest pre-college programs I could find. I'm pretty sure my parents' income qualifies me for aid; it's a bummer I'm an international.

Ohh, that was my plan as well! Do you know how many they award that to?

My qualifications:

PSAT: 214 (77 CR, 64 Math, 73 Writing)
SAT: Taking next Saturday, aiming for a 2200
GPA: 4.0
I'm in only 1 AP but I'm doing ridiculously well in it...by my schools weighting system I have a 102 for the year.

Really though, I think I was a slam dunk to get in. I had the money, the interest and some good recs, which was probably all I needed.

wait wats the difference btwn Boston U and boston college? are they the same thing or two different schools? which one's better in terms of academic competition/prestige?

The two are both very well recognized establishments, but being from Massachusetts, I have to side with Boston College on this, on sports and campus. However, I would not be able to compare their summer programs. Athletically, BC kills.
If you're trying to decide between the two, I'd say just go with the one with the classes best for you. Both places are on the same T line, but BC is farther out of the city than BU.
According to the 2006 USNews Report, Boston College is ranked significantly higher (34) than Boston University's (57).

Hey everyone!

I have taken the liberty of starting the official 2009 BU HSH/SRI Facebook group. It'll be good to have a chance to meet each other a little bit before the summer comes around. I'll post the link here...if you don't join you'll be missing out!

BU High School Honors/Summer Research Internship 2009 | Facebook

if that doesn't work the group is called "BU High School Honors/Summer Research Internship 2009"

joined :)

bumppppppp

I submitted my app to the Internship program awhile ago. Now, I just have to wait for my counselor to mail her recommendation, so I can get a confirmation..

tom jones! i remember you from the SSP thread. I got rejected from SSP, so this is my last hope. I think it's somewhat easy to get in though.
