Hello! 20 days till classes start! So excited! Anyway, I dropped my sociology class for Plants in Human Affairs and can't find anything online about it. Does anyone on CC have any insight into the class? Is there a lab portion to the class because on Thursday, the class goes from a room in BAR for 10th period to a room in MCCA for 11-E1. Any insight would be helpful!

labs tend to be listed as a seperate course, so if you dont see it explicitly on your schedule, you probably dont have one. its not unusual at all for a class to meet in a different building during a different period once or twice a week. i haven’t taken it though, so it might be a breakout period or anything else. i dont really know.

Hey, I’m gonna be in that class too!! The only thing I’ve found online is one rating of the professor online, but it was from 3 or 4 years ago, when she was a ta. According to that, she is supposed to be a really tough grader, but I’m not sure if we can trust something that old.

Haha yea, guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Raising this from the dead.

How did this class end up being, anyways? I might be interested in taking it. It seems that there is no more information about the class now than there was at the time of this thread’s posting!

The class was not hard at all. the tests were a little too in depth, but nothing that can’t be made up for with the copious amount of extra credit and easy essays(which could seriously barely be called that, they were short and on easy topics that could practically just be lifted from wikipedia).
the lab portion was soooo fun, it was almost like arts and crafts. we made tie dye, soap, paper, and during the normal lab days, you could always finish in at most 45 minutes.

What we studied during the actual lectures was actually pretty interesting. if you like history it is a good class for you. You didn’t even have to take the final, I think it was optional if you wanted to bring up your grade, but it’s not like many people needed to do that, maybe a handful.

If you need a B science credit and lab credit, I would highly recommend it. if it is taught by the same prof as last time, don’t trust the reviews on rate my prof, she was so nice and really interested in teaching.

This class seems cool. I think I’ll take it! Thank you very much for the detailed information!

One last question -

Would you consider this a straight up Botany class, considering it’s scientific content?

no, definitely not, it is more a gen ed science geared towards liberal arts majors, like that math for liberal arts class. I think it count for the botany minor though.

So, for example, you would not see this as contributing to a science GPA despite it being offered by the Dept. of Biology and being a Botany class?

I don’t understand the question. it is a botany class, so it probably counts for the botany major gpa, or the major gpa for what ever major it is an optional class. your major gpa would be from all the classes that are on your tracking, or it would count as an elective or gen ed.

Understood. Once again, I appreciate your help!
