I read several threads regarding the bleak conditions of the freshman dorms in the Botetourt Complex at William and Mary. My son was just assigned to Fauquier Hall. Will he really feel isolated and be dealing with a “roach infested” dorm? The discussion I read dated back to 2011. Any recent insight?
Replying to say that I’m also the parent of an incoming WM student assigned to Fauquier and I have the same concerns. I’m hoping someone on the forum weighs in with some reassurance!
I would advise that you send your child a bottle of raid in a care package. Everything you fear is basically 100% true.
Your son is def already at W&M, but for anyone reading this thread in the future: I have a friend living in Botetourt this year (Gooch, more specifically) and she totally doesn’t feel isolated - I’ve been over there, everyone is super friendly - and they haven’t encountered any roaches. That being said, they have a window unit, so maybe invest in one of those?
My daughter is a freshman at W&M and also lives in Botetourt, Nicholson to be specific. No roaches and no feelings of isolation. Sure, it’s a long walk to and from many areas on campus, but she enjoys the easy access to the Rec and the dining hall. Her dorm is very friendly and she has also made friends with some of the other kids in the other Botetourt dorms. Would it have been her first choice? No. But she is extremely happy there and having a great freshman year!
My daughter, also a freshman at W&M, currently lives in Botetourt/Fauqier and loves it, despite lack of air conditioning. Also no bugs or feelings of isolation. She has a friend who lives in Green & Gold, and apparently that’s the one you want to try to avoid.
