Bother applying?

Here's a brief summary of my profile... I realize I am well below average (especially GPA-wise), but as far as I know, the Claremont colleges are much more concerned with the personality/character/uniqueness of a person.

GPA : 3.4 Unweighted (a huge upward trend from freshman year)
ACT : Taking it in the fall... I expect a score of at least 33... hopefully 34+

I have only taken one AP, Calculus AB as a junior... A's both semester and a 5 on the AP Test...

I have taken a few honors classes (which is weighted the same as an AP class in my school). Taking 4 more AP's my senior year.

EC's :
-Freshman Football
-Volleyball my whole high school career (Varsity 3 years, runner-ups for the section title one year)
-Really involved in church/youth group. Leader of the worship band. (I know these schools aren't the most religious schools)
-Music Club
-Started my own "project"/club with a small group of friends; we basically go around to senior centers and stuff and play music for them.

Volunteer Work:
-Four mission trips to Mexico
-Volunteered at an Elementary School for a Summer

I'm applying to Pitzer and CMC... should I bother applying to CMC? I know it's a very good school, and a hard school to get into. Does anyone know of anyone that got into CMC or Pitzer with a GPA as low as mine?

Although my GPA is really low, I feel like it doesn't accurately project my competence in school. I see the Claremont colleges as schools that look beyond numbers in determining intelligence, and look more at those who want to actually learn and broaden their minds. And most of all, I think that the Claremont schools are after students who are different, and aren't just typical high school students. And so I feel like I would fit in at the Claremont schools.

So if anyone wants to hit me with the brutal truth, then please do so... but only reply if you actually know the Claremont schools to a certain depth please. And again, I'm applying to two of the Claremonts, Pitzer and CMC. Thanks.

My D applied to both CMC and Pitzer...SAT 2170, 31 ACT, unweighted GPA 3.9, weighted 4.07, 5 AP's (USH 5, Eng. Lit. 4, also CalcAB, Eng Lang, and Spanish Lang senior year); decent EC's and essay, good rec's from teachers. CMC rejected her; Pitzer accepted her (so did UC Berkeley). She chose Pitzer and in the end we realized that CMC was not the school for her. I think she'll fit in well at Pitzer.

CMC cares about whether you can take the college load. But what they are essentially looking for are people who fit well into leadership roles. That's the college's motto. So if you do choose to apply, make sure all the leadership roles you've played shine through in your application. All the best. I think it's worth a shot. It's a good school and you sound like you'll do well there.

Thanks for the replies.

And that's kind of what I was thinking hitchhiker, so thanks for reassuring me. anyone else?

chances at CMC/Pitzer + other schools I have a decent shot at (match/low reaches). I think my recommendations will be decent, and my essays should be good.
