Bowdoin 2022 ED/RD (NESCAC Schools)

@Green135 It’s a great accomplishment and a wonderful option to have. Bowdoin is a great school.

Acceptance rate is measure that I find disturbing, as it feels like schools are doing everything in their power to tell more and more people they don’t measure up. Schools that drop an essay or a test requirement get huge increases in applications, but I doubt that many of those extra applications make the cut. It’s not a Bowdoin issue, it’s a college application issue.

Don’t be sorry…you’re excited and that’s great. Just remember for every one like you, there are 8 or 9 people who don’t have that option.

Hey guys! I never post on CC but I figured I would do so to give some hope to those looking into Bowdoin.
I got accepted RD.
SAT: 1470 (3rd try)
APUSH: 4
AP Euro & AP Seminar = 3
I did not submit SAT subject tests.
GPA: 99.093
ECs: run track, co editor of newspaper, competed at DECA Internationals, Cabaret Night Vocal Captain and did some social activism in my community but that only started during my senior year.
Race: Afro-Caribbean
Income: about 100k

Each college has a particular fit that they do not tell students. It goes beyond mere grades and school involvement, but instead who the student is at heart. That’s why the Common App essay and supplements are so important, especially for highly selective schools. I used to read CC and feel so insecure about my scores and involvement. I’m telling you IT DOES NOT MATTER. Everyone’s gonna tell you what you should/should not do as if there’s a particular formula. THERE ISNT. Stay true to yourself. Do things because you really enjoy them, not because you think a college would prefer it. College acceptances are not a crapshoot. If you didn’t get into a school, then their loss. You may not have been a good fit for them but you sure as hell will end up where you belong. Everything happens for a reason so sit back, relax and get off of this dumb website!!!

@JulianMarsh They received 9,047 applicants for the Class of 2022, up from 7,251 for the Class of 2021 and 6,799 for the Class of 2020 (https://bowdoinorient.com/2018/01/26/number-of-applications-hits-all-time-high/).

Did anyone get the chamberlain scholarship and know what it is exactly?

@momofcollegebound What is a Bowdoin Faculty Scholar? I can’t find it on their website.

Faculty Scholarship info:

"Each spring, the College offers a Faculty Scholarship of $3,000 to 100 students who have been admitted to Bowdoin through Regular Decision. The scholarship is contingent on their acceptance of Bowdoin’s admittance and can be used to fund any “enrichment activities,” such as research or internships, during the students’ Bowdoin careers.

According to Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Whitney Soule, the scholarship is awarded to applicants whom the Office of Admission believes might be especially interested in pursuing an extracurricular project.

“It’s [intended] to honor some of the qualities that we see in a student who demonstrates an inclination towards wanting to do independent research, or someone who is showing a lot of initiative,” Soule said.

According to Soule, the scholarships are not considered “merit-based aid” because they do not directly augment a student’s tuition. Soule explained that the Faculty Scholarships are intended to make Bowdoin a more attractive choice for prospective students and incentivize recipients to enroll at Bowdoin."
