Hey I’m trying to decide whether to apply ED to Bowdoin. I’m in love with Bowdoin’s campus, location, and academics. However, after I spent an overnight there I got the impression that drinking and partying were huge deals on campus, and that most of the students there were preps/athletes. I want to go to a college where there will be more to do on the weekends than drink and party. Can someone tell me their impressions on Bowdoin’s culture and whether there’s more to Bowdoin than drinking, preps, and athletes?

I recently committed to attend Bowdoin as a recruited athlete… During my overnight stay I got to meet the team as well as other students. I liked the vibe I got from the campus and everything was what I wanted. Yes I am speaking through the athlete perspective, but it looked like a school where many people were being accepted regardless of being an athlete or not. I hope you did ED!

You probably spent your time with a very specific crowd when you were at Bowdoin. I live in a chem-free dorm and know many friends who seldom/never party or drink. There are in fact many other things you can do on weekends, like going to a concert, a play, an improv show etc. I’m not an athlete, and from my standpoint, Bowdoin has a fairly diverse student population.

Regarding the drinking/partying, I actually met 2 guys on the tennis team who actually don’t drink at all since they are basically RA’s. So no not everyone has to party and what not.
