Bowling Green State University MT program

Hi all,
Does anyone know anything about Bowling Green State University's MT program? It's a B.A.C in Musical theater. They are only supposed to take about 10 this year. Can anyone tell me more about the program and what recent alumni have been doing? The only information I got was from the website.

mtlife,

I sent an email to BGSU about a month ago, the response I got was from the dept. chair. At that time I was trying to determine whether it would be a "safety school" for my D. One of the things I asked about was some stats on number applied vs number accepted. He indicated that in prior years, their acceptance was somewhere around 30-50 percent of applicants, but that every year the talent of the applicants was getting stronger.

I don't know specifically about success of alumni, I do know that they do not currently participate in any sort of Senior Showcase in NYC, CHI, LA, etc, if that matters to you.

My D's acting coach graduated from BGSU about 30 years ago, he is still somewhat familiar with the program, he said he would expect that BGSU would give a more rounded theatre experience than a BFA program, you would be more exposed to technical aspects and business aspects as well, not just triple threat artistic aspects. But this is probably true of B.A. Theatre and B.A MT in general.

Hope this helps. If you have specific questions and have not done so, send an email to the dept using the address on the website. If you are looking to attend in the fall, they still have an audition date mid-April.

Thank you. I actually have already gotten accepted but I haven't made a decision yet. I talked to the dept. chair as far as current alumni and such but the only people he mentioned are several with internships including at the recent revival of Gypsy on Broadway. However, I don't know about the musical theater graduate successes. I will probably go there if I don't get accepted to a BFA program (which I haven't yet). I just wanted to know more about to know that I'm going to a great program. I guess this is coming from someone who really wants to get a BFA.

Congratulations on your acceptance into BG. If you do go there, make sure that you audition for The Huron Playhouse which is their summer stock program. It is a competitive audition and the training for that 6 week program is wonderful. Alumni of that program have gone on to work in Chicago, NYC etc.. Hope this helps!

mthopefulmom do you have a student at BG? Do you know if freshman are allowed to audition at OTAs?
