I will be going to the Boys State in a few weeks and I really would like to win Boys Nation Senator position. I need information as to how I am going to win this position. For example, what information must I study during these next couple of weeks? How should I get myself noticed? And how does the campaign process go for this position? Basically, any information regarding this position is very plausible. Thank you.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is “Boys Nation”?

Boys State is held in all states as like a leadership thing in the summer for junior males for high schools around the given state. At the end of a five day period of fun (not really, I did it), two stand outs get chosen for a national convention

bluecoast, do you know how to get selected as one of those 2 standouts who go to the national convention?

it really depends on what state you’re in…some are more competitive than others, and each one has a different selection process

Meet as many people as possible, organize, run for Governor (most common way to get into Boys Nation) or another high profile office. Be the one that is seen as building a voting coalition. During debates, make inspiring speeches, and at all times, network. At the same time, many of the adults and your peers will not support you if you come off as trying too hard, looking desparate for the honor. During this week, you will be a politician, and you will see that likeability, popularity and dumb luck will often beat brains and preparation just as in real elections. Do know the ins and outs of state and local governement though, just to make the process easier. I know in many states, there is downtime for sports and there is marching involved, so make sure you don’t stand out in a bad way. If your state has a facebook page, get to know people ahead of time.

I attended Girls Nation years ago, and hopefully my son will be chosen for Boys State this year. If you don’t get into Boys Nation, it is not the end of the world. State is a real learning experience. I met several women that I would run into at college and later throughout the state (long before facebook and email) so it served well in networking for years.

Just saw this is an old thread…hope he got to go to Boys Nation

I went to boy’s state last summer in New York. Out of all my summer programs it was my least favorite. Your going to learn about state government but there marines who really kick your ass. You have to do morning runs and other stuff the time your there. The best part is it’s free so you have nothing to lose. And it looks good on a college app. It does not matter if you get into Boys nation or not, just be happy you got into boys state. The American legion also tries to help you out along the way. i hope you enjoy it more then I did.

okay, just to add in my 2 cents that’s probably useless to the OP lol

BOYS STATE IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AWESOME OMFGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG LOVED IT SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH. Only regret was not even RUNNING for the Boys nation positions (in my state, its ‘governor’ and ‘lieutenant governor’) because I thought I had no chance…but after being elected attorney general (i guess the “third” most “legitimate” position) I deeply regret it. My roommate went to boys nation, and it sounded like a heckload of fun. Tearsies that I didn’t get to go. okay end rant :D
