Hi there-
I will be a freshman next year, and I played varsity tennis all four years at my high school, playing second singles sophomore year and first my junior and senior year. I know I am not good enough to be on the varsity team, but what are the different levels of play at BC, and how competitive are they?
BC has a club tennis team (http://bcclubtennis.wix.com/boston-college-club#!), which is the step below varsity. I don’t have personal experience with this so I’m probably not the best source, but I feel like I remember it being pretty hard to get on their team. They hold tryouts in the fall, so definitely worth looking in to if you’re interested. BC Recreation also offers tennis lessons. There are a bunch of tennis courts and I often saw students playing there. Even if you just wanted to play recreationally, I’m sure you could find other students to play with you. Check out the BC Rec website (http://www.bc.edu/offices/rec/).
You can also try contacting the club team via the info on their website and just ask about tryout numbers. I was on a club sport and we were always happy to answer emails from prospective students. (Just make sure you email someone whose graduation year tells you they’re still at BC!).
