I was looking at the club and intramural sports at BC and many of them looked competitive. Is it difficult to do/ tryout for a club sport? Do you have to have a lot of experience? I was looking to do field hockey or lacrosse but I have not done them since 8th grade so I don’t have a lot of experience.

Club sports at BC are pretty competitive. I tried out for club field hockey. About 50 girls tried out and they only take a few. At field hockey tryouts all the upperclassmen on the team automatically make it again so 20 of them literally just stood around watching us all. There were also some crazy good international students that tried out too that blew everyone away. Try outs themselves weren’t that difficult, but you are definitely up against a tough crowd.

I know for soccer it was something ridiculous like 70 girls tried for only 3 open spots.

I know lacrosse is pretty competitive too.

They’re all a pretty big commitment. I know a girl on club lacrosse who has practice sometimes at 11pm-1am or something crazy because that’s the only time they get field and practice time in the sports bubble.

Many club sports can be very competitive, but a lot of students just form pretty relaxed intramural soccer teams, etc.

how are the fields and courts like?
are there many open basketball courts and fields?

will be a fresh next year.

Women’s club rugby is an option. My frosh D was a west coast (typically less competitive than EC) varsity field hockey player. Making the team was unlikely. Intramurals were not serious enough. Club is just right. There are two squads; “A” side and “B” side. Not many women have played prior to college. They do travel a bit. Rugby is very social and a great way to feel connected to the university. They have a couple of events with the men’s team. She is staying fit and having a blast.
