Brag, Brag, Brag, Part II

Congratulations to your daughter. What exciting news. Once again I am struck by the amazing talent and hard work that every student represented on this posting site puts forth. It is wonderful when that hard work pays off and is recognized.

Also, congratulations to you, as her mother, for all the support you must give her so she can achieve in the manner that she has been able to in the past and obviously will in the future. Good luck with your busy fall to come!!!

Mikksmom,

Congrats to you daughter!! I'll be there to see the show since I live right in town.

Hi everyone, I don't often post but thought I'd let everyone know about my S's new project. S is a playwright/ director/ sometime actor who graduated from NYU. One of his plays was selected for the NYC Fringe festival. If you would like to find out more about it, go to the NYC Fringe Festival web site and under 2006 plays find " Something More Pleasant". You can follow a linc to the company my S and other friends from NYU have formed. They will also be presenting a reading of one of my S's new plays next Friday in NYc. It is amazing how much starts to happen at one time. S is also working on a new musical that will be workshopped in the fall. As a director he was trying to do an innovative production of a classic Musical but had the rights pulled after approaching the group who holds the rights. Not one to be stopped he wrote the book writer, a very well known playwright who commiserated, and blamed the composer. He did offer to send him one of his new plays and recently offered him the production rights to produce and direct it in NYC.( A production is currently being mounted in LA.) So it just goes to show, remind your kids it never hurts to ask, or probe. You never know where it could take you. Congrats to all of you whon have posted good news. I'll let you know if anything new develops! Cam

Great news! Where is your son's play being done in NYC? My D is there as part of CAP and if she has no plans, she'll probably go! Her goal was to see as many new plays as she could (and cheaply if possible!!). If you dont want to post the info, send me a PM.

Thanks!

It is always so great when long time posters here come back and give an update of what these grads are doing post BFA. Your son has accomplished a great deal and I just read his site and it is very exciting to see how his works are taking off and what he has achieved so far. He seems to be going places!

I'm not sure if I ever realized in the past that your son had atttended FWF. My oldest D went there for four years ('98-'01) and I've seen many productions there and may have seen him in some. She likely knows who he is though she is three years younger.

I was reading over the productions he has worked on with his group. Theater always seems like a small world. I noticed that in Wounds to the Face and The Children, one actress, L.W., is a good friend of my youngest daughter's (who attends CAP21). L. just graduated but was in my D's a capella group, The N'Harmonics. I am almost certain my D went to see The Children. The Stage Manager, J.L., is also in my D's group and is a friend. In Leonce and Lena, the boy playing King Peter, T.A., went to Stagedoor with my D. And in your son's new play, Something More Pleasant, the actor playing Brother, is also in my D's group.

In any case, your son's talents and initiatives are taking him far and I will be interested in updates on the new projects he has in the works. My D is not in NYC this summer but I'll pass on anything she could see when he puts productions on during the school year when she is back in NYC. Much good luck to him on the Fringe Festival!

Dear Soozie and all, It really has been an interesting ride through NYU and the Musical theatre/ theatre ride. More interesting to me at least is the journey of my younger son, who is going to Ithaca next year. This is a young man who was the lead in every musical from Fresman year, but who decided that TV/ R was his love. He went to Ithaca for orientation, and decided to audition for voice lessons. PS. He was accepted for voice, was told he was amazing at reading music was asked to sit at the piano and played and was asked to be in chorus and was told that even though Ithaca does not cast many who are not music majors to be in their musicals, he should make sure to audition before school starts for the musicals! Well S. is really happy, It doesn't matter that Mom has told him he is way more amazing than his brother9 vocally). I will let you know how the Ithaca auditions pan out ! Cam ( It's really hard to follow up a class act!)

WOW! What an exciting journey. Run's in the family, I guess.

Camge, It is fun reading about your other son's journey too. A young woman from our HS who is now about 23 and had been leads in the musicals back in HS, got into and went to Ithaca for a BFA in MT. Lo and behold, very early on at Ithaca, she switched into Broadcasting and graduated a year ago and got a job as a newscaster! She also was quite talented at MT. Another theater friend of my D's from here in VT (but not our community) is entering his soph year at Ithaca. His background is also in MT but he is in the Acting program and likes it a lot. My D recently put on a show with him before she left for the summer.

Your son ought to audition for the musicals at Ithaca as you never know. He obviously has the talent, even if his career interest is going in a different direction. He could still keep his foot on stage!

OK so i am extremely happy that i will be attending Roosevelt University's Conservatory - The Chicago College of Performing Arts! I move in later this month.......

Ok who am i kidding-----

I am actually the most excited that i am typing all of this ON MY NEW MAC I GOT YESTERDAY! ok sorry, i just love it!

OK, this happened about a month ago but I haven't been on here in 2 months and I've been really excited/proud of this. I was asked to choreograph a local community theatre production of Once Upon A Mattress that was performed last weekend, and it was one of the most amazing experiences ever...definitely makes you appreciate your dance teacher lol! Also, due to that working out well, I was asked by the director of that show to teach dance at this "Performing Artz" camp that will be held at our local YMCA the 2nd and 3rd weeks of August, ending right before I leave for college...and I'm actually getting paid for it! Haha, it's not much, but it's my first theater-related "job" so I'm excited:)

Cindy, I don't know you but I am really proud of all those things you are doing! Each aspect is exciting and a step in a new direction. I think when my own kid has choreographed and directed, she has said how it is is really rewarding to see one's ideas and creativity and vision come to life. It is also a great feeling to see the people you work with accomplish the dance or show. You're right that it gives you a perspective of what it is like for all the teachers you've had, lol. Also, I think your work was recognized because the director asked you to teach some classes. I know my D has really enjoyed teaching classes to youngsters. And lastly, it is really cool when you start getting paid to do these things, huh? Congrats and good luck to you. Sounds like a perfect summer leading into college.

Well, this is Brag, brag, brag...so I just wanted to say i heart my school...

The Backstage College Guide to the Performing Arts lists The Theatre School at DePaul, along with Yale, Juilliard and Carnegie Mellon as “prime examples of places that look after their own. The networks that these schools have developed can be invaluable.”

I KNOW THAT RANKINGS DON'T MATTER-THIS ISN'T ABOUT THAT, I'M JUST REPEATING AND EXCITED ABOUT THE HONOR

Hi to all, I don't get on this site as often as I would like, but I really am so proud and I wanted to share with everyone. A group of NYU Grads( mostly from the 2006 class) are in the NYC Fringe festival. Their play is called "Something More Pleasant" It has been named one of the 10 plays to watch in the Fringe by AM New York, and one of the top 20 by The Village Voice. It is being produced by www.room5001. com. This company is made of mostly Playwrights horizon grads. I saw the show on Saturday and it is pretty amazing. I will admit my S. is the writer, but the overall quality of the piece was incredible. The actors are amazing, Sets are creative and the dancing beautiful,Costumes are superb. It is really wonderful to see such young talent pull off a professional level of performance. I am proud of all of them. If you are in NYC the performance dates are:Sunday Aug. 20 at 10:00 PM, Monday August 21 at 4:45 pm, Saturday Aug. 26 at 7:00 PM, Sunday Aug. 27 at 4:00 PM. . Come out and support a very talented group of young people. The show will astound you! Camge

Congratulations camge!!!! That's about as good as it gets!

What a wonderful experience, you must be so proud, sorry we can't see it.

Wow camge. Your post is making me smile. That is what it's all about. Congrats! :)

I just got a very excited phonecall from D, who got a callback for the role of Little Becky Two Shoes at her first audition at Muhlenberg. Whatever happens, she is delighted. :)

That's GREAT! What a way to start off and a nice confidence booster.

YAY!! That's awesome! Very competitive, and to get a callback is great! I mentioned before that we saw an actress in Last 5 YEars who is a Muhlenberg graduate; one of the most incredible singers I have EVER heard! Good job!

Great job AMWQ D! Actaully several of my D's firends a the 'Berg are also on callbacks as well...very exciting and good to know that freshman have a shot!!

And on another note.....National Merit SemiFinalist!! I am thrilled!! Now if we can just complete some app's......
