Brag, Brag, Brag, Part II

Musicmom, the fair skin redhead combo is gorgeous! I loved Joy to the World the best of all last night. I'm really enjoying this show & your D must be having a blast.

It looks like everyone is having a great time in the choirs. I was disappointed that the Houston choir was the first to go since my daughter's friend had an upcoming solo. But, she called my daughter today and told her that she will get to perform her solo tonight on the show. I had to DVR last night's show (so I'll have to catch up with MusicMom's daughter over the weekend) and DVR tonight's show as my daughter's show opens tonight. The show was promo'd on our local NPR station on Tuesday and they were able to sing two of their group numbers, as well as Astonishing live on the radio. I saw the preview last night and didn't realize that kleenex were required in Act 2. I hope the OK City choir gets to hang around until the end but I really enjoy the Philly choir. Patti LaBelle seems to be such on inspiration.

AlisMom, did your D's friend sing the solo in the last song they sang? Can't remember the name of it now, but with the sign language? She was really good. I think one of the best female soloists of the week.

Thanks for all your support. This has been a fun week. It doesn't matter that they did not win, although each choir would have liked to. She had the time of her life, met some terrific people, and learned so much. I can't wait to have her home, though!

I agree musicmom, she brought tears to my eyes...even before the end of the song with the son & his father! Congrats to your D, she should be very proud of herself. (She got a lot of camera too the first song!) Now if only she could sing in English...lol

I had heard that the show was going to be two hours long? Was it? We DVRd it and only got an hour long show. We got home about 12:30am and were trying to fast forward through to see if we could see my Ds friend's solo but didn't see it. So wondering if we didn't get the whole show. Her friend has short black hair and was wearing a red sequins halter with black pants.

Last night was quite a night. My D had a friend from NYC in to see her show and when my D walked her out after the show, they saw someone drive off in her friend's parents car (with over $600 worth of new clothes in her suitcase in the back seat). We had to wait for the police to come and in the meantime, my Ds best friend and her mother who had also come to the show, found out their car had been broken into and the steering column cracked in an attempt to steal it. Then there was another car that was just found running on the street, possibly dumped when my Ds friend's car was stolen. I believe the theatre will be hiring security for the remainder of the run.

Yes, it was 2 hours. At first, it was only going to be 1 hour, but on Wednesday night I heard them calling it the next night the 2-hour finale, so I had to re-program to record 2 hours. Your friend sang toward the end of the show, I think.

That's awful about the car thefts. I hope they all walk to their cars in a group after the show, just in case someone is waiting to take more than a car!

This is less a brag than just exciting news for D. The touring company of Wicked is in town and the dance captain is coming to her school as a guest teacher. We saw it last week and she is SOOO excited and hopes he/she (can't remember the gender) will teach some combos from the musical.

Keepingcalm, your D will have lots of fun. The current dance captain is female (although it is not uncommon for tours to have two dance captains -one of each gender). Jennifer Balagna is a wonderful dancer who comes by her talent naturally, her mom owns and runs a well-known dance studio in Missouri. My D knows a few kids in this tour, a couple from Tisch and a couple from BoCo, all wonderful dancers. Maybe a couple of them will accompany Jennifer to your D's school. :)

Bumping for previous equity discussion as requested in another thread:
Post #268- page 18- KatMT gives equity card info.

I’m mostly a lurker these days, but this was always one of my favorite threads. As your students complete their last school plays or make summer plans or prepare for next year, I hope you’ll share your “brags” here.

mezzomom I always liked this thread. D finished her last HS performance a few weekends ago. It was a world premiere of a full ballet of Treasure Island - with sword fighting and all. D had to learn stage combat and some reasonable sword fighting, at least it wasn’t en pointe. THe ballet was comminssioned by a local arts fund. During one of the prefromenaces the guest choerographer for the Cincinnati Ballet was there and he came up to D afterwards and told her she a had lovely stage presence. D was thrilled that he had noticed her and took he time to come and talk with her. The ballet itself required a good bit of acting talent, so all D’s years of MT and theatre were a definite advantage.
Tonight she has her senior choreography project - then she is done with HS! and the school overall which she started at in 4th grade.

Yay Keepingcalm! It’s great to be recognized for hard work and talent!!! Bittersweet time for your family but new adventures on the way!!!

Well I figured I was pretty much done posting for a while. I’ve posted previously about our son’s acceptance to NYU Tisch by Early Decision, which was huge. Then he was recently assigned to the inaugural class of the New Studio on Broadway for Music Theatre, which is so exciting. We now have some additional, delightful news: He just received a Paper Mill Playhouse 2010 Rising Star nomination for “Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role” for his performance in his final high school musical. We are so proud of him! This is icing on the cake of a great senior year. Thank you all for letting me brag, lol!

Keepingcalm, what a special moment for your daughter…best of luck to her at PP next year!

Bville - congratualtions to your son. What a wonderful recognition.
D’s senior choreography project was tonight and as nice as that was, what was even more wonderful to us as parents, was the mother of an underclassman who told D at the end how thrilled she was that her child had been a soloist in D’s piece and she had never had anyone ask/let her have that prominence snd how excited her D had been about it. In the life ahead, I could not ask for more than the fact that my D made some one else,(and their mother) feel good about themsleves. For me that is and always had been my child’s true gift.

keepingcalm, Your daughter sounds like an exceptional person as well as an exceptional artist. Perhaps it is a level of emotional maturity our kids gain by their senior year–in addition to their level of training–that allows them to be more giving to their peers. My son has always been a good collaborator, but this year he became much more of a mentor to the younger actors in the program. He’s been successful, yes. He’s been fortunate in his opportunities and he wants to see his peers do equally well while enjoying the process. He very much shares his nomination with them!

B’ville, I was in the middle of writing my post when you posted your son’s wonderful news. How exciting…cake is good, but icing on the cake is even better!

Although d will not be starting college auditions until the fall, her dad and I attended the showcase performance of her musical theatre “prep” program yesterday. It was great to see how much all the students have improved over the year. At the conclusion of the program, was thrilled to see her presented with the Theatre Arts Merit Scholarship (which will help fund continued training there next year) and for her to receive her written faculty evaluations that she should definitely consider a career in musical theatre. As she’s building her list of schools to audition for, that’s such a great nod that she’s going in the right direction. (Now, everybody help us get through next year…!!)

Mommafrog, what wonderful affirmation for your “tadpole.” And a great confidence boost as she heads into audition season next year…
