I've been told by someone who knows you and your S about how talented he is. Clearly from your latest post, he's not only talented but has both depth and breadth. That is most unusual. Congrats on having a terrific kid.

Thanks, yes, terrific! People ask if I'll be sad for him to leave in the fall - right now I'm not sad, only happy for him to do what he loves to do. I figure if we can launch our kids to be independent and happy, then we've done a good job as parents!

ElliottsMom - I've heard good things about you and your son from our same mutual friend! Good luck next year to you all.

Ericsmom--Finally! You SHOULD be bragging about that boy. What a lot of talent, and he's such a hard worker and so dedicated. Tell him you-know-who sends her love and hugs and congratulations.

Ericsmom, congratulations to your son on the art award! Wow, that is really something. As you know, I've seen online copies of his art work and have commented not only how good it is but that is impressive to me when I meet kids who are talented in more than one area, and on top of also being an accomplished academic student, as your son is. I think he is an interesting person to be skilled at more than one thing and to have varied interests even if he is passionate about and going for a career on stage.

As well, he has done great in his college admissions process. His work this summer at the Equity theater in Chorus Line will be a wonderful professional experience for him at this stage (no pun intended) of his young career. And boy, he surely has become a skilled dancer in a fairly short amount of time and I bet he will love BTP. I think the fact that he dances so well will be an asset for him down the line. Many boys I know have barely danced before entering a BFA and so that is a weaker skill for them. Being able to dance, along with being a good singer and actor, will help him in casting opportunities, especially at the early stages (oops, pun again!) of his career!

His upcoming dance recital will be a great culminating event for him (and you). It is cool that he will also sing in it. Our annual dance performances never have live singing. Last year was an exception when my D who had danced with them for ten years and would have been in about 10 dances in that show (she was also in their company) including a "senior dance" for the three graduating girls in the company....was too injured to do the show. Coincidentally, it was her first day walking on her own even. But they had her sing the song for the senior dance while the other two seniors danced it, and my husband acompanied on guitar. I think it is really great that your son is going to sing and dance. Here at our dance shows, it is ONLY about dance. Hardly anyone who dances there is in musical theater, by the way. Anyway, enjoy every performance!

Best wishes once again.
Susan

WOW... congrats to Eric. I have seen his art work (on line) and it is really excellent. So glad to hear the news.

I didn't know Eric could possile have any more talents! It was a pleasure for me and everyone in Footloose, he will go extrememly far.

I just got back from NYC!

Drowsy Chaperone is AMAZING! And completely hilarious. I seriously think I laughed the entire show, and my face started to hurt from smiling for so long. Sutton Foster is incredible. The whole show is just completely perfect. I love it.

Wedding Singer is also fabulous. Even though we were sitting in the last show, I loved it. The dancing was wonderful. I liked it better than the movie. Also another funny one.

Color Purple was my least favorite of the three shows. It was still good, but I was fighting extremem sleepiness, and the fact that the show ran kind of slowly didn't help. Also, we were sitting about midway through the balcony, and had to strain to see the stuff that happened in front of the pit. Still good, but no where near the level of the other two.

And I went shopping! I spent over $300 in five days - a little crazy, though I managed to buy an adorable pink Burberry mini backpack, a Kate Spade bag, a Coach bag for my mom's birthday, the perfect Dooney and Bourke bag, sunglasses, earrings, show shirts, and a few NYC souveniers.

I love New York!

Thanks for all of your very nice comments. Babygiraffeboots and mtmommy, I hope you know that the OCU summer camp with Footloose was an wonderful time for him, and you have talent to brag about, also!

He is very proud of that art award. I think he will try to continue painting during college. My husband is an architect and both of my boys inherited an eye for art (certainly not from me!). My older son never took it far, but Eric has now been in AP Studio Art for 2 years under a wonderful teacher.

ericsmom,

Congrats to Eric! I also saw that fabulous painting online and told you it was my favorite! You have such a talented son and I know you are so proud! I know he has a lifetime of successes ahead of him! Way to go!

Congratulations to Eric on his first place prize, what a multi-talented kid!! I hope he's planning on keeping up with his art as well as MT in college.

SO glad you liked Drowsy Chaperone! I talked my husband into seeing it next Sat (the cheap seats...) for our 20th anniversary. So if he doesn't like it, I'm going to hear from him! Yeah, ain't NYC grand!

We also loved Drowsy Chaperone... saw it Thursday night. It was just so much fun.
By the way, people going around 45th street and Broadway -- be prepared for the crowds that congregate each night outside Julia Robert's show. Apparently she has been very gracious about signing autographs, etc.

i saw drowsy (wed. matinee) and thought it was excellent

drowsy chaperone was awesome! I am in love with it! Great show!

I wanted to let all our CC friends know about an exciting new venture at Oklahoma City University that I would like to brag about!

The 2006 "Stripped" New Musicals Project is bringing the future of Broadway to OCU this Sunday (April 23rd).

This has been a giant undertaking and quite a labor of love for me. I'm pleased that we have many CC students in the casts of our four musicals. Several of our industry composers are flying in from NYC and Canada to see this presentation that is directed and performed by OCU Bass School of Music students.

For all the details, you can check the thread **"Stripped" New Musicals at OCU **in the Oklahoma City University section.

The event is free and we invite all our CCers to join us!

Ooooh...might not be a good idea to have a show called "Stripped" right now on CC!!!!!

Lynn, LOL!

Good luck OCUMtInfo and your casts and any CC kids too!

This is the first time I've posted on this thread but wanted to share the news that my S is dancing one of his jazz solos on a stage set up in Times Square tomorrow evening some time between 7:00 and 7:30 p.m. It's part of a week-end long dance event called "Project Dance". Since this is the "brag" thread I guess it's O.K. to say that he was invited to dance there because he is the current Mr. Dance of America 2006. I don't know if any CC'ers live in NYC but if you do and you're around Times Square tomorrow evening I thought you might want to hang around for a few minutes and watch.
MTaussie

MTaussie - That's so cool! Congratulations!

MTaussie,
How exciting! I don't suppose you'll be able to be there to watch?
