brag sheet/resume

Have any of you read Katherine Cohen's or Michelle Hernandez' college advice books? In both, they show a specific outline for writing the brag sheet or resume to list activities, awards, employment, etc...

I was wondering if these outlines are the right approach to get into a highly competitive school. I'd like to know if I should use these brag sheet formats or if I should use one that is more similar to a job application resume that uses action words and gives longer descriptions of what you accomplished in each activity.

For example:
Cohen/Hernandez brag sheet format would just list DECA, positions, hours per week, etc.. in a column/table format

Resume format would be DECA, position, hrs per week, and a description like the following: (in a job resume format that is more list like)
Direct and execute fundraisers. Conduct holiday gift drives for impoverished families. Compete in marketing management series category in upcoming regional career development conference. Demonstrate key business and sports marketing concepts to peers.

I'd go for the longer description (though not too long!) format

i dont know people who really do that..

Many students in our HS use a table-type format for an ec resume that is a customized form of those authors' ideas. It can be similar in content to the common app form but fleshed out and make looking at the ec's easy to figure out at a glance. Others use a bullet point type format. Some I know sort of try out each idea and see what works best for their stuff.

Just keep it clear and easy to get the info at a glance-- format matters less than ease of reading.
