I keep on hearing people say that you should attach a resume/brag sheet with your application to a college. Although I made one for my counselor recommendation, do I really need to send in another?

Give a resume to the teachers who will be writing your letters of recommendation. But do not send one to colleges as you will probably have more than enough space on your application to say what you need to say.

Ditto, ^^^.

You’ll need to make a resume for teachers, but you should have enough room to fill out all your awards and accomplishments on the application.

I disagree. If you have significant ECs that may not be the conventional “JV Soccer - 20 hours a week/15 weeks a year,” they might be hard to explain on two lines of the Common App (if this is what you’re using to apply.)

Personally, I am definitely making a very concise “brag sheet” that documents some of my activities/awards that are harder to explain.

For a quick summary of a typical brag sheet/resume, I know there are a few sample brag sheets in “The Truth About Getting In” by Kat Cohen. You can probably just skim the pages about the brag sheet if you don’t want to buy the book.

In short, understand the different options and choose for yourself. …Although I do recommend a brag sheet :P

There’s space in the Common App to elaborate, FYI. Unless I’m completely remembering incorrectly… it’s been awhile.

But agreed with AgentTwiddle in terms of deciding for yourself. Fill out the Common App and then see where you stand.

Thanks! Yea, I’ve seen those samples but they were ridiculously long (hence I was wondering if it was even worth sending one in).
