Branches of the University of Texas

The son of one of relatives is a junior at a Catholic high school in Texas. He is in the top quarter of his graduating class. Gradewise and test scores, he was more than enough to get into the Austin campus of the University of Texas. However, his guidance counselor said that his class rank would work against him getting into UT Austin.

This family really cannot to send this boy to a private college. His guidance counselor said that he would be a lock for Texas Tech, where the young man really doesn't want to go.
The guidance counselor also suggested the Dallas as well as the San Antonio campus of within the UT system.

The young man is looking for a school with a strong liberal arts program. He will probably major in one of the humanities or social sciences.

If anyone has any information to share, the young man, his parent and I would all be appreciative. Thanking everyone in advance

I would not recommend UT Dallas for liberal arts. It is more math/sciences focused. That said, there is a program where a Texas student can start at a branch campus and then transfer to main campus. Look into that. I would NOT rule out Texas Tech. The honors college is very strong and quality of student life is good. He should at least visit and take a look at it.

If he is in the top 25% of the class, and scores above 600 on each part of the SAT for a minimum of 1300 on M+V, he should get an automatic admisson at TAMU.

A very high SAT score mitigates a below 10% rank and opens for the door for a summer acceptance in Austin.

UT at San Antonio is a very weak school.

yea, dont apply to ut dallas for humanities or social sciences
