I was accepted to both schools and am having a lot of trouble deciding which to attend (I will definitely be attending one of the two).
To give you a sense of who i am and what i am looking for my dream school is University of Michigan, but I got waitlisted so that is no longer an option.
So yeah I love the frat scene, party scene, school sports school spirit scene, stereotypical university. Also I like large schools because my high school is so big (4000 kids).
which school fits me better socially
also how much better are Brandeis’ academics and reputation than Binghamton’s. I know it’s a lot but how much?
I guess what it comes down to basically is: Are Brandeis’ academics and reputation so superior to Binghamton that I should go there even though i am more socially in line w Bing?
-cost is really the same so that doesn’t matter
Thanks!
First, congratulations to you. You have 2 great schools to choose from. My son was making the same choice last year and chose Brandeis. He loves Brandeis, but of course I can only base what I know on what he tells me. He is not a partier, would never join a fraternity and will likely not attend any school sporting events while he is there. But he is having a wonderful time socially. His social life revolves around the clubs he has joined and the friendships that evolved from the clubs and the dorm. He has challenged himself academically thus far. He took 4 classes first semester and is taking 5 classes now. He will double major, as many Brandeisians do, but hasn’t decided on which 2 majors yet. His friends at Bing are also very happy and are being challenged academically. Sounds like the social life may be more active at Bing and there are certainly many more students there. I can only offer the anecdotal info of a parent, but Bing sounds more in line with what you are seeking. Best of luck to you, whatever you choose.
If you can afford Brandeis, I think you should go. No college lacks for parties, and if you really want big sports, Boston has plenty of pro sports, not to mention other colleges’ teams, and it’s not like Bing is in the SEC or Big10.
Ultimately, college is about getting an education.
You can party anywhere (including working full time and not going to college), what matters is the degree you get, the grades you get, how involved in campus life you are.
Brandeis would make you give the best of yourself - while not depriving you from parties and sports.
