Which college is more selective? NYU’s College of Arts and Sciences or Brandeis University? They are both ranked very close to each other, with NYU just below Brandeis. Which is harder to get into?

Anyone want to even attempt to tackle this?

Won’t you expect biased replies by posting this within Brandeis University’s thread?

I’m biased because I went to Brandeis, but I believe that’s offset because my father and uncle both went to NYU.

They are both fine schools. Brandeis in general is harder to get into, mainly because it’s a great deal smaller.

However… if you are depending on “intangibles” to get you in, then you might actually have an smoother experience at Brandeis. Brandeis will do an evaluative interview if you request one, NYU doesn’t do that. You can meet with professors as an applicant, I don’t think NYU could do that (due to size). If you are a quirky, unusual candidate you are more likely to slip through the cracks at a school like NYU. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great school, just very, very big.

Brandeis’ selectivity is actually decreasing (i.e. it’s getting easier to be accepted) and so if you are looking at schools in terms of prestige, NYU would be the better bet-- 15 years from now, Brandeis will probably be lower than NYU in the rankings.

At my school (very close to Brandeis, so a lot of students apply) kids that had absolutely no business being accepted to a top University (3.3 gpa’s, 1900 sats, etc) were admitted Brandeis. It seems as long as you had one hook-- like good SATs, good grades, a compelling EC, etc.–then you were pretty much in.
