Are there summer/spring/winter breaks?

If so, how long are these breaks without doing co-op (freshman/sophomore) year?

If I'm doing the NU in program and I arrive in Boston during December, do I still have a winter break?

There is Wednesday through Sunday Thanksgiving weekend, day after finals finish in December (around the 15 or so) through the first weekend in January for winter break, and then one week in March for Spring break. School ends close to the beginning of May and starts a few days past Labor Day. There are no classes on some holidays - things like Presidents day, Patriots Day, etc.

@kiddie
thank you so much! i had no idea summer break is around 4 months

The summer after freshman year will likely be your last real summer break. Afterwards you will be either on coop or in summer session 1 or 2 during your summers. This may vary by major.

If you do NUin, when you return home (different sites have different end dates in Dec-all before Christmas), you return home for break until Welcome week in Jan, right before classes start. The summer between freshman and sophomore is the only full summer once you start alternating coop/academic semesters. However, if you have a lot of AP or duel enrollment credits, you may have more flex ability with summer semesters. Lots of students choose to double major,duel major or add a minor rather than keep summers free.

@TomSrOfBoston thank you!

@bhmomma
thank you for the NUin clarification!

You can see exactly what the breaks are for next year on the calendar:
