Does anyone know anything about this program? S received a letter today inviting him to apply to it. (He's already submitted the common app here.) The website says: "Bridges provides entry to Potsdam for students who do not meet the normally applied admission criteria but who possess the potential for academic success."
We were somewhat surprised to get this letter - didn't think he didn't meet the normal admission criteria - but we (and he) are not necessarily opposed to him applying to the program.
Any info would be welcome.

Oh i think its similar to the EOP. its a mandatory summer program for people who are academically disadvantaged but show potential success for college. I would be happy to be offered that program if my grades fall below the average admitted students.

^Here’s some info for you. Does your son’s gpa/rigor fall below what’s listed in this link?

^Here’s the info specific to the Bridges Program at Potsdam.

If Potsdam is at the top of his list (especially as a financial safety, where he would be happy to attend), he should definitely apply.

Thanks nysmile. No, his gpa doesn’t fall below what’s listed, which is why we were surprised to receive the letter. Maybe Potsdam’s requirements have gone up.
The program isn’t necessarily a bad idea for him, it just made me worry about the other SUNYs he’s applied to, which are more selective. We thought he had a shot at them, but maybe not.

Potsdam: 88.2 is the average GPA for a freshman applicant.

If his GPA is less than 88, it makes sense that they feel the Bridges Program may be a good idea for him.

Take it. I wish my kids had gotten something like that. Actually, one of mine did get some offer as a minority for a school that he did not accept. But, it’s a great bennie to get.
