Bridging Disciplines - worthless?

I'm looking into the Social Inequality and Public Health BDP (I think that's what it's called) and it seems interesting, but I'm just wondering if it would be a waste of time in the long run... I mean, the research/internship opportunity is kind of appealing, but I feel like I could do those things even without necessarily being in a BDP and having to go through the hassle of applying and BDP advising and doing the 101 course and all of those things. Plus, I don't think employers or grad/law schools would really care about some random certificate they've never heard of that says you took a couple of courses in a particular field. Can anyone who has some experience with BDPs shed some light on this?
