Same here! You’re not a loser, this would have a significant impact!
You’re not alone either! So anxious to hear the outcome :-SS…
Just realized I’m a Knight lurking in a Gator thread ;)) this is something that unites us all and I sincerely hope the Governor does the right thing
the Governor vetoed SB374 but the Bright Futures increase will still go into effect
Wow…ok so what about the $300 for textbooks? Summer Bright Futures? I didn’t see that coming…
Meanwhile he will most likely sign a horrible house bill for our public schools. Disappointing.
Oh no! No out of state Benacquisto for my Texas girl. What a long ride!
Awww, this is pretty disappointing, especially for those who were hoping for the other benefits from the bill besides the BF increase. It’s great that we still get full tuition, but it’s only for this school year (if I’m reading the article correctly). Hopefully, the lawmakers will push just as hard to get a permanent boost next year (can’t wait to go through the anxious updates again, lol). And I have the same question as Tigershark: is the $300 for textbooks still in place for this year too?
@Tigershark43 The end of the article says it will cover summer classes. Not sure about the textbook stipend.
it looks like the financial aid provisions of the bill will remain in effect - the Bright Future increase, the Benaquisto for out of state students, the book stipend, and summer funding
this article mentions the other provisions remaining in effect
I have been glued to this thread.
Wait, so the Bright Futures will only last a year? It’s going to be reversed back to 50% tuition and no summer/textbook cost covers during the 2018-19 year? Whaa?
Yep. That is how it is. Sucks.
@madredos Will it have a chance of being renewed?
It says that for the 2017-2018 school year, the OOS Benacquisto cost of attendance scholarship would be in effect. So does that mean for those OOS NM students who happened to apply to the participating Florida universities, they will get a full ride, but if you are applying this fall for 2019-2020 school year, it will not be in effect??
…
Rip…looks like I have to live at home if I want to go to UF … sigh
Hopefully it gets renewed. : /
@crazy4info Yeah, that’s what it seems like.
@sushipanda - Sure it could be renewed. But there is no guarantee. It is a shame that the students have been caught in the mind games that the FL politicians are playing with each other.
I don’t think my 2018 OOS likely NMF will play scholarship roulette with the Fla Legislature each year. He will have better options. May still apply to FSU since it already has good OOS scholarships but UF is out.
