it’s official - the Florida Dept. of Education has now confirmed the increased Bright Futures funding will be available beginning this Fall semester
Statement from the UF Office for Student Financial Affairs:
Woot!
Wow. Didn’t bright futures used to not cover summer?
@AimingTop50 Correct, but this year it will (summer 2018).
Regarding OOS NMF Benacquisto, this article makes it sound perhaps like the Dept of Education may still implement and fund it, just has not gotten around to it yet.
"The budget will also increase funding for other aid programs, including the Benacquisto scholarships, which support National Merit Scholars, and an aid program aimed at “first generation” students attending colleges or universities.
Negron said he was pleased that the Department of Education, which is under Scott, is trying implement most of the financial-aid programs that were in the Senate bill “despite the veto of critical conforming language” that specified the changes."
doraemon33004, I have a child at the U of Miami with many of those same scholarships. It looks like the increase in BF will not help him in any way. I was told by the state that the $300 stipend is simply going to be added to the total BF amount (at least for private colleges like the U.) This will only result in the Florida Incentive Scholarship being decreased by a different amount. It’s frustrating.
Be thankful. I am so disappointed the mid level BF kids will get no increase.
@canes19 do you know when the credit for the Benacquisto Scholarship will show up? My parents had to pay the tuition by August 1, and I know the scholarship won’t be funded unitl way past September. I was under the impression there is supposed to be a “Pending Credit” with an estimated amount by now, but haven’t seen it yet.
