Bringing a desktop

I'm a Singaporean student starting at Duke this fall. I currently have a desktop computer, and will be purchasing a laptop when college starts. I know I will need a laptop, but it feels like a bit of a waste to have my perfectly good desktop computer sit here collecting dust while I'm in America.

My question is: is it a viable option for me to carry my desktop with me to Duke and use it alongside a laptop? My desktop is easier to use (bigger display, etc) and more powerful, but having it alone is not too practical, so I'm going to get a laptop regardless. But will I really find much use in having two computers?

I do…see my other post in the laptop/netbook thread…

Or you could sell the desktop and put the money toward an even better laptop.

I don’t know the situation at Duke specifically but when I was an undergrad, I had to move every year and put my stuff in storage or ditch it with friends while I was out of town. Having a laptop made the whole process a lot more convenient. Furthermore, you may not have a whole lot of space in your room and a desktop may feel imposing in the dorms.

Agreed with laxtaxi!

Or sell it and buy a monitor and keyboard. That, I think, is the best of both worlds.
