Bringing in 1 additional credit takes me over 70 transferred - will I still graduate?

Hey guys, I just saw this information on my transfer report and had a mini heart attack over it. I am attending CSU - Sacramento. I have gone to quite a few schools, and my specific CSU school has all of my transcripts. In total, currently 70 transfer credits are being utilized. However, there are a couple “D” grades that are not being used anywhere to fulfill academic requirements. I am assuming that they are only being used to fulfill the required overall credit count.

Over the summer, I went out of state, and took two classes, which I hoped to then equate back at my CSU, to CHEM 1A (5 credits) to fulfill my math and science major requirements for my CS degree. One class was the discussion portion (3 credits), and the other was the lab portion (1 credit). I passed the class, sent my transcript, and submitted the “Transfer Course Equivalency” form, with all required signatures. On the form, it shows that the two classes equate to CHEM 1A.

However, on my “Transfer Credit: Report” page, there is a note on the discussion course that was transferred in, that states that it was translated to “CHEM 1A*B1”, and “Meet CHEM 1A and G.E. Area B-1”. Therefore, it looks like only the discussion course (3 credits) was given the CHEM 1A designation.

When navigating to my “Academic Requirements” the course is not being used to fulfill my math and science requirement, and only shows in my General Education requirements, fulfilling area B-5 (even though another class was fulfilling that requirement, whom now shows in my “Courses Not Used” section).

Is there some clause that states that the math and science credits requirement for the CS Bachelor’s requires the courses to be taken at my CSU? I cannot find anything that states that, and why was the course only awarded 3 credits, when the equivalent class (as it states in the form submitted, CHEM 1A) here is 5 credits? Do I need to fill out a “Major Course Substitution” waiver or something of the sort to have it equated in terms of credits to CHEM 1A?

The other issue that I have, is that as a result of my CSU taking in the two classes from the college from out of state, at the same value of credits, it currently shows up as 4 credits, so I am currently at the max of 70. If they were to equate the class to the full 5 credits, as the equivalent class is at my CSU, it would push the transfer credits to 71. Would the class still be eligible to be used for the math and science credits requirement for my major?

There are a couple classes that were transferred to my CSU from out of state universities that show up as "D"s. I tried looking into academic renewal at the university the courses were transferred from, but it is not offered for "D"s. Will my CSU simply move those course’s credit count out of being used, if I were to get those two courses equated to the full 5 credit class, CHEM 1A? Or is it that the first classes taken are used for the 70 total credit count? There are several classes that were transferred in, that are not being used to fulfill any academic requirements.

It’s the only showing as unfulfilled for my Bachelor’s Degree. Am I just royally done for? Let me know if I can provide any more information.

assuming your objective is to stay at Sac, i think you’ll be OK but, I encourage you to sit down with an academic advisor at Sac State ASAP and map out the rest of your coursework.

I’m trying to get the heck outta here. My current graduation application shows approved for Fall 2019, but it has not been evaluated by a degree evaluator yet.

I do plan on sitting down with an advisor when campus opens back up.
