Transfer credits

Wondering if anybody knows how credits are actually allocated when transferring.
I transferred in the Spring of 2015 to a new institution. This new school gives every course taken 4 credits.
My previous school gave humanities courses 3, credits, and math/science 4 credits.
I, being an English major now suffer a credit deficit because of this difference. If I were a science major, for example, I would not have any difficulties with my credit allocations, and would of course graduate on time.

I was wondering if this was a normal problem? Is it something I could perhaps contest with the registrar or a dean about.

It’s just an issue to me because I’m only short 8 credits, and it will now require me to graduate in 2018, rather than 2017. Luckily for me these credits can of course be made up in later semesters, I just thought the system of the credits seemed strange. Like I stated previously, if I were an engineering major, or what have you, hypothetically, I wouldn’t be facing this issue.

Thanks!

You have to discuss it with someone at your school. Worse case you can probably walk the graduation and take the 8 units during summer for the actual degree. Why would you take a whole extra year for 8 units?

Just doing what my institution told me I had to do. Of course it is not my personal wish to do that. Therefore I am trying to find ways to correct the mistake, or make up those credits in a timely manner.

I can only speak for the UCs, but from what I have gathered people can walk the graduation and then take two classes in summer to get the degree. Hopefully, that works for you. Good luck!
