I know this depends on the person, but what is a good number to bring of the following:

-shirts
-pants
-sweaters

?

P.S. I'm a girl and very into fashion.

That's a really hard question to answer. Are you one of those people who can get a couple of wears out of an item of clothing, or do you wash everything after one wear? How often do you want to do laundry? How often do you want to repeat a shirt or sweater? Are you dry cleaning things, which would cause you to not have certain articles of clothing for a few days?

This won't be relevant for you but to other readers:

As a guy, I am bringing about 12-15 shirts, maybe 6 shorts, and some kakhis.

Often you'll start buying clothes you got ridiculed for wearing at home but still like (for me, too-small shirts and jeans).

Personally, you can never have too many clothes. Well, you can - if it doesn't all fit in your closet, dresser, and a trunk. Some people go overboard on real formal outfits which they end up not wearing a lot of, but basics like shirts, jeans, sweaters, really just as much as you can store. At least that's my philosophy.

I'm bringing rouglhly 20 shirts (about equal mix of tees and polos), 4 pants, 2 shorts, and a crapload of boxers. Oh, and 2-3 formal shirts and pants. I personally think I'm packing on the heavy side, but whatever.

you can never bring too many clothes!!!

I'm going to Maine so i'll need a lot of heavy clothes..but i'm not sure what else to bring. I'm guessing around 15 shirts, 6 jeans, 7 hoodies, dozen boxers, dozen socks, and a big a** coat. As for shoes..hiking boots, white sneakers and black sneakers.

I don't know why I listed all this :P I guess it just helps to reassure myself.

well i love clothes, so going through my closet and deciding what to bring and not to bring was tough for me. i will probably have to send my parents home with stuff, but whatever...i figure i might as well over pack and send stuff home instead of underpack and be left with not enough.

also, it will be hot for about a month when i move in, and then it will get gradually colder...so i brought my summer clothes and some warmer stuff, and then when the weather gets colder i am having my mom ship out my winter-y stuff while i send back some of my warmer weather stuff...if that helps any.

As a fashion-forward female, how can you be asking this question?!?! There's no such thing as "too many" clothes. :) (Although umcp11 has a great point regarding storage, etc.)

Narrowing down my extremely large wardrobe may just be the hardest part for me to swallow when I leave home next year...

I had the same problem as you. Basically, I just went thru my closet at home and decided I'd take everything I've worn in the past 2 months. If I haven't worn it in the past 2 months, then I probably won't wear it at school. This works for me because I go to school in California. It probably won't work if you go to school where it's cold, otherwise you'll be stuck in skirts and tank tops in the middle of winter. lol

i dont consider myself a girl whos very into (high) fashion but i care about what i wear and like to wear cute tees or sweaters most of the time. i dress mostly casual/relaxed/beachy but here it goes.. im not coming back home until thanksgiving and im going to boston so itll get mad cold before i come home.

about 6 tank tops
10 tshirts
15 combined sweaters/zipups/long sleeve tees
5 hoodies
8 pairs of jeans
3/4 sweatpants and soem workout/sleep/lounging clothes
and i think 2 flip flops, 2 sneakers, and 2 uggs

guess i am packing alot?

just 10 shirts? is it just me or does that seem like nothing at all?

I have three suitcases of clothing and one suitcase of shoes. For what it counts, I don't fold.

I'm taking...

about 35 t-shirts
about 5 polos
about 5 button down shirts
2 hoodies
1 jacket
about 8 pairs of jeans
pair of sweats
2 pairs of kakhi shorts
2 pairs of workout shorts
1 pair of sandals, 1 pair of dress shoes, 4 pairs of tennis/casual shoes

And I'm a guy! I didn't even realize how much I was taking until now, not even when I packed it all up. =|

Oh well, I do love t-shirts.

I'm bringing as much fits in the suitcases that fits in my van. And I roll my clothes to make more space.

"just 10 shirts? is it just me or does that seem like nothing at all?"

It's just you. She also has 6 tank tops. She could go two weeks without wearnig the same shirt twice. I'd say that's pretty good - more than what I have - if you don't claim to have a wardrobe the size of three small countries.

wow, desperaclo you sure packed a lot for a guy, and i thought girls r the ones who overpack

i'm bringing
6 tanktops
15 t-shirts (including some plain ones for lounge/sleep/workout)
3 dress shirts
4 skirts
3 shorts
2 PJs
4 hoodie/sweater/jackets
6 pairs of jeans
1 sandles, 1 sneakers, 2 flip-flops, 3 heels/wedge, 1 boots (yes im obssessed with shoes)

too much?

I have way too many clothes at school:

2 pairs of jeans
2 nice pants
5-8 dresses
10 or so skirts
at least 20-30 shirts, maybe more like 40-50 including t-shirts, cap sleeve, baggy, tight, sweaters, hoodies etc...
3 nice pairs of black shoes, 1 nice pair brown, 4 flipflops, 3 chucks, 2 sneakers/walking shoes
15-25 leotards
10-15 shorts (dance and street)
20ish pairs of tights (black pink and tan)
2 dance skirts
3-4 pairs of ballet flats
2 pairs pointe shoes
tap shoes, jazz shoes and dance paws

I have half a closet, a dresser and tons of underbed storage for clothes. I need to go through them all when i get back to school and send some home

honestly, i dont think you can have too many clothes. as long as you can store them somewhere, then you're good.

im moving back to school this weekend and bringing approx.
18 pairs of jeans
12 "bottoms"- capris, skirts, shorts
10 pairs of sweats/athletic shorts/pajamas
8 dresses- 3 actual formal style/ 5 casual
20 pairs of shoes -including flip flops though
at least 40 shirts
14+ sweaters/jackets/hoodies

i live close to school though, so i can easily go home and switch summer stuff later, or bring specific things i want for events.

18 pairs of jeans and 20 pairs of shoes??? 40 shirts??? ***???

/envy
