High school junior here looking to go into the health sciences. As I look into colleges, I’ve started to considered several universities in the UK as possibilities (Edinburgh, Glasgow, etc.). I’ve noticed that a lot of these places have minimum SAT and AP scores to apply, but I don’t think I should have an issue meeting them. My main question is, are these requirements considered the bare minimum, or are a decent amount of students who meet the minimums ultimately accepted?
In general, as a U$ applicant, if you meet the stated requirements, and you have a solid Letter of Reference and Personal Statement (note that this is different than a US essay- it’s about your suitability for the course you are applying to study), for most universities you are more likely than not to get an offer.
Note that some courses are more over-subscribed, and thus may look for more than the indicative offer posted online; that this does not apply to Oxford, Cambridge, LSE & Imperial; and that St Andrews is more like a US university in that GPA and ECs are a factor.
Finally, “health sciences” can mean a lot of things- if you mean medicine, places for international students are extremely limited, and there is pretty much always an additional aptitude test. In any case, UK courses are much more structured than in the US- be really sure to read the details of any courses that you are thinking of applying to. Fwiw, your other thread says that you are interested in public health or medical anthropology. I am not sure that the UK is the best place to look for undergraduate programs in either.
