At the final step of the process to apply to the colleges of my dream, I realized I made the biggest mistake of my life (kinda..lol)

I only took 2 yrs of foreign language.. :/ i thought that as a native Chinese speaker I didn't have to take an extra language course; moreover, my counselor promised me that I would be alright with the lang. requirement as long as I passed 750 on my foreign language SAT2...

Now I can't even apply to cornell CAS, because they require 3 years of foreign language.

What should I do?? Does it look that bad?

BTW: I took AP Chem and AP Physics B in place of Spanish my junior year.

I think that the best thing you could do at this point is to go to your counselor and discuss the problem with them. It’s either that they weren’t knowledgeable about what prerequisites you needed or that you won’t actually need the language credit (although I think you do).

Alright, I think you should do two things before anything else.

Talk to your counselor about the problem and figure things out.

Call Cornell and explain to the them the situation and ask their advice on what you should do. (I don’t really know much it’ll help considering requirements are requirements)

I hope that this bit of information helped you out. Before you apply, I would definitely address the situation. I do think it would look strange if you applied without the necessary requirements (unless however, you can justify your situation)

Anyways, good luck with everything and I hope things work out for you.

Is there anyway you can take it during the summer, online, that kind of thing?

@nlu: Thank you for such a detailed response! I really appreciate it. I’ll try my best to present a reasonable excuse to Cornell for not resuming my Spanish courses & call them to find out more.

Also, I found an online Spanish course website and I have begun taking it, but have not had the opportunity to completely finish it… so Idk if that would count as another year :/
