Help!

Ok, I have been accepted to Cornell School of Arts and Science, and have already sent my deposit and all that. Because of my heavy AP load this year, I chose to take Spanish 3 as an independent study. Unfortunately, over the year, I have slipped behind and now have to finish about one and a half semesters of spanish to finish the course. I would just forget it and move on with life, but three years of a foriegn language are a minimum requirement to attend the Cornell. Short of telling me I'm screwed and to start looking at community college, can any one give me any type of advice or guidance. I guess I really have two questions.
First, is there any way to get Cornell to let me attend without finishing a third year of spanish (I know, wishful thinking)
or...What do you think the latest date they would accept completion of the course? (Can i try to finish this course over the summer?)

I think you're going to have to contact Arts and Sciences Admissions and admit to your problem, but before you do, it might be a good idea to find out 1) whether your school will indeed allow you to complete the course over the summer and 2) whether you have the option of taking the course at a local college during the summer. That way, when you talk to the Cornell people, you will be able to tell them exactly what your options are. And the fact that you've done your research will help to convince Cornell that you're taking responsibility for your situation, which can't hurt.

Thanks, I already have permission from my high school to continue the course during the summer, it now just depends on whether or not Cornell will let me do that.

I think you'll be okay as long as you contact the school and tell them your situation. They will probably either let you drop the class, or make you take it over the summer.

I remember the story of one kid not officially graduating because he didn't have enough gym credits, but some college took him anyways. Colleges obviously want u to go with them and if there is some kind of situation that can be solved, and you take the initiative, I think you'll be fine...good luck!

Hey, by American standards, i'm not ready for College because I haven't done ANY year of gym or arts and just 1 year of Humanities. The system here lets you decide your concentration area in Grade 11 itself. Don't sweat it...you should be fine.
