I was wondering what major I should pursue if I wanted to become an investment banker or a stock broker. Two cousins of mine are graduates and work with the stock market(Selling/buying?) from home on the computer and are able to make a very good income--would this be the same major as that of a stock broker/investment banker? My current plans are to go to medical school with a science major, but this path seems more rewarding financially. Perhaps I could major in this area and still fulfill premed requirements?

There is a thread right below this called What to major in to be a investment banker? Why don't you click on that thread?

The quality of threads on this board is becoming ridiculous. All it is are ignorant ibanker wannabes who have no clue what ibanking is askign what type of major to pursue or how much money is involved. Everyone needs to go read a vault guide or do some internet research beforehand instead of going onto a message board and asking questions like a 5 year old. Sheesh, were you even too incompetant to click on the thread right below this addressing the exact same thing?

Please, don't go into either field, because that requires a very high level of intelligence.

I will admit I took the easy way and ignored the thread below--your spite is understandable. I did some research and found the anwer on my own.

abcgirl70, you had similar questions in a comparable context early on in this forum( "MBA or pHD?", etc), so I guess you would qualify as a high school baby as well--the only difference being fellow members here actually helped you out instead of calling names.

dpa, you go to columbia in manhattan; again, the haughty attitude is more than expected so I won't even go there.

Mark don't worry, the above two are idiots, and yes the business forum can be a joke and most of the time is. Research own your own time will benefit your more than researching on this particular board, although we me give you hints on what direction to go for information etc.

Further idiocy, displayed by dpa who thinks we are all ignorant ibanker wannabes but suggests that a vault guide as his best resource. Questionable

Okay sorry for the attitude. I really am not elitist although I might have come off as. You just need to know how annoyed I am by all these threads. About 80% of the threads are what do i need to do to become an investment banker? or what type of major do i need to have? do i have to major in finance? what is the best way to get an internship freshmen year?

so many theads are of that content and i just wish that more people would have better threads just because these questions are so easily answered, and that most people who have done 10 minutes of research will know find the answers to these questions easily.

and furthermore, i think that vault has the best guide on ibanking. It is not in depth at all, but their guide to investment banking does a good job of summing up the major divisions and functions concisely, as well as providing day to day examples of what an average analyst/whatever else does. It is a lot better than browsing this board...

Vault is a very basic guide, its substance lies in that it gives you a general idea so you don't pursue further information in a large number of areas.

Spend more time in the biz subforum, this is how it has been for a while, so no complaining. If we had a mod here, it may be different, but for some reason we do not

this post is kind of funny. BTW- I agree this subforum is a waste of time. It getting clogged more and more every year with these types of threads.
