Mozilla Firefox.

Firefox!

Opera is also not bad, but it has some bugs.
And IE is just ... BAD

I may have to give a Firefox vs. IE quick quiz, so start discussing WHY one may be better. (hint, hint)

FF of course!

yeah well i have IE right now- i've never used firefox before. wow, is it really THAT good?

anybody willing to tell me the reasons why its "so much better" than internet explorer??

^^Good thing somebody is concerned with the quick quiz coming up on this subject. He's helping you, so please share your input.

2 words are all you need to know about why IE suck: active x

Well, I can tell you right now that simply telling me "active x" on the quiz will NOT get full credit.

Firefox has screwy foreign language encoding systems that don't allow the user to change encoding when it wants to. IE contains a great deal of glitches and security loopholes. The other two I have not tried.

logisticswizard, if you were talking about me, i'm a she

Mozilla has tabbed browsing...you don't have to fill up the task bar wi/ 18 million windows until it clumps them all together and then you have to look through some long list trying to find the window you want

Mozilla doesn't attract nearly the quantity of pop-ups that IE and netscape do

It doesn't spontaneously crash for no apparent reason

There aren't any viruses that exploit an inherent "flaw" and no said exploitations take place that then cause your PC to self-destruct and makes IE crap out each and everytime you try to use it (yes, this happened to me, and yes, I'm still bitter about it)

In order of my preference:

Safari, Firefox, Opera, Netscape

IE is for losers. Seriously.

Has anyone tried the new IE 7.0?

i agree with tennispro....session saver is a lifesaver
who here hasnt accidently closed a window by mistake?

smder99 thanks, everyone here download session saver and try it out. It basically saves all open tabs when you close a window. It helps on computers that crash alot or for sites that you frequent a lot (i.e. CC!!!)

Yup...all has been stated...tabbed browsing and downloadable themes are demigods!

Also, FF doesn't download ANYTHING without asking you first, and it automatically blocks all pop ups.

Browsers aren't so much of an issue security-wise now that I use Mac, but when I had Windows, using IE was like playing Russian roulette.

Ok, I posted the quick quiz for this thread. I think I'm gonna start making them for all the HS Life threads.

I'll take IE(IE 7.0 is nice). Yes I have firefox installed right now. It is funny to see everyone jump on the Firefox bandwagon. While Firefox is a remarkable product, it is not nearly as great as you guys believe. And yes I have a very very detailed knowledge of IT Security. The important thing to realize is that both browsers are excellent if

A) You install all security updates, etc as you are asked too.
B) You understand how to browse safely. This is key, as many of you unknowingly visit websites that are high risk. Have you gone through all your security options?

Also realize that the more people jump onto Firefox, the more people will target Firefox. Infact, the firefox code base is opensource, so if a very clever programmer manages to slip in a backend, or perhaps sees a loop hole, he can take advantage of this.

One of the troubles with Internet Explorer is that it is integrated with the operating system. You can disable active x in IE. Also, has anyone done a thorough test of memory requirements for IE and Firefox? The results are very interesting.

Oddly, I have never had IE crash except when my homemade chess engine had a memory leak and used 3 gigabytes of memory, screwing the computer.

To say IE is for losers is not a very smart thing to say.

sagar_indurkhya your argument against Firefox is valid but its the age old question. Are open source programs more vulnerable because the code is open source. Well experience and so far it has proven to be false. Though it is a valid problem and could obviously occur at any time. Also I agree with you that many people jump on the Firefox bandwagon because it is a trendy thing but a few percent actually like the functionality of it. And again I agree with what you said about people not know how to surf the Internet. It is perfectly possible to surf the Internet today without anti-virus software and not get infected if you know what you are doing.

I use Pocket IE and IE 6. Tried 7 Beta-Had to roll back because of conflicts. Firefox is also commendable.
