Hello,
I applied early decision to PLME and Brown, but I am totally scared and was wondering if anyone could chance me. I don’t expect to get into PLME but there was no harm trying.

Maths – 700
Writiing – 700
Biology M – 790
Chemistry – 700

Rank
My school doesn’t rank properly for senior year, it’s weird. Go to private school so only about 35 people in my year, out of which only 5 other people take 4 HLs, and I have been consistently within the top 5 (Junior – usually 3, 4, 5. Senior – usually 1, 2)
Same for GPA, have no idea what mine what be.

Extra
I swam professionally until junior year and have records in both 50m freestyle and 200m butterfly. Best in Sao Paulo State and amongst top 20 in Brazil (or at least I was then – my 200m butterfly record is still intact). My common app essay was all about why I had to stop swimming (problem with my shoulder), frustrations etc.

Essays and Recommendations
Imagine my recommendations are good as my teachers really like me
I believe my essays are also really good, or at least better than those I read.

if anyone could help me I would be really thankful…

sorry about the typos. wrote this really quickly

The one thing that will hurt you is the critical reading score, but the admissions officers may give you some leeway on that because of your parents and nationality. Your essay topic seems very compelling, and your extra curriculars/grades are excellent. PLME is ultra competitive, though. I think that specific program may be a reach, but I could see you getting into the general program at Brown easily. Good luck. You have a better shot than most.

ahhh tstong thank you so so so much! =)
gonna sleep and rest for my SAT tommoro, and try to pump up my CR…

holy ****. my friend’s sister got in and she doesnt come close to having what you got in extracurricular activities… i think the only reason she got in was A)she’s black B) affirmative action

What do you mean by afirmitive action anyhow?
Comunity service?

Also I am as White as it gets
my parents are german and Portuguese decendends.
And I go to privite school, which for some reason makes me think they’ll mark me more harshly

@gmoraes - Affirmative action is not community service :p

Although I do not live in the states I believe affirmative action is a policy in the US that applies to any schools/employers whereby they are effectively forced by law to accept/hire a certain proportion of ethnic minorities to avoid being charged with racial discrimination.
So effectively black people only compete with other black people to get in and being an ethnic minority is a huge edge in admissions. The logic behind this is that that average scores/GPAs/living standards of ethnic minorities are usually a lot lower than those of white people.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong :o - not in the states atm :p

that would make sense, but i hardly doubt that it applies to a white Brazilian girl who attends a private school…

where are you from poor player?
