Brown 2014 - ED applicants

I didn’t mean youuuuuuuu. I was just speaking generally!

question. is the early decision acceptance rate calculated from the initial results of ED, or do they add everyone who was deferred and later admitted in that pool too because they originally applied ED? i think the first one but…

I think it’s the first option.

Adeyadi, I hope that isn’t true :frowning: but it probably is… Then again… how many ppl would be applying to brown early? Don’t they apply to places like mit, caltech, yale etc??? I have a feeling they won’t be applying early, but will be applying regular? maybe I’m wrong, maybe I’m just hoping that it will be like that, cuz I want to do engineering and there’s no way I can compete with kids at styvensen (spelling is probably wrong here lol) or Bronx Science school.

Quasi & tetris

Yes, it’s sad how so many people don’t see the true beauty of the Brown Education.
Or…maybe a lot of people do, considering how the number of ED applicants went way up. So I was just wondering if the increase is due to the “Emma Watson effect,” i.e. superficial (and unqualified?) applicants seeking to increase their chances by applying ED or if the trend is genuine.

At my school, I see an interesting trend where a lot of people are applying ED this year. I think this is because college admission is becoming ever so competitive due to the recession and everything, and many people have the misconception that applying ED boosts their chances of getting in. Does anybody else see this trend developing?

^ Yeah, a lot of people think that I’m applying ED to Brown because it “boosts my chances.”

i honestly didnt know that emma watson went to brown until after i had already applied and one of my friends asked me where i wanted to go and i said brown and they said tell emma watson i said hi. at first her name didnt ring a bell and he had to remind me that she is from harry potter. I dont pay attention to the movie stars outside of the movies. i really dont care about their lives. i have my own to live and they already have their money. i need t5o make my own. i dont understand people. and i really think it is an american thing because my england, trinidadian, and nigerian friends dont go as crazy as this…

and smileelv, i hope i am wrong too. but i think the numbers are split up. I think they then break up ny into portions and give quotas for the amount of students accepted per area. at least that is what someone told me…

Oh trust me, Indians go crazy about movie stars like nobody else. It’s like we need them to replace the gods and goddesses that were supposedly walking around ruling kingdoms thousands of years ago.

can those of you whose last names are later on in the alphabet please do me a favor and try to change any of the information that you have on your brown page and see if they would allow you to. because mine is not allowing me to and that could possibly mean that they are starting with those at the beginning of the alphabet now…

They don’t do stuff by alphabetical order. Each admission officer is given a section (location wise). Then, they do several rounds of dropping kids. And then the remaining applicants are brought to a committee, who say accept, defer, or reject.

So… anyone else feel strongly like going into a coma until the 14th?

Adeyadi, my last name begins with a T, my first name begins with an E, and I can’t edit any info either.

9 more days!

fastbreak, It is worse than that. the incomming class is 1500, not 2800.

i would love to just wake up and it be the 14th!! gah… even though it’s in less than two weeks, it seems like so long away.
and my last name starts with a “z” (pronounced “zed,” not “zee” :)… when i called brown’s admissions office and had to spell out my last name for them they had no idea what i was saying until it occurred to me to say “zee” haha) and i can’t edit anything so i don’t think it has to do with alphabetical order.

mynameisrose’s song of the day: The Re-Arranger - Mates of State

and @imgdoc, i think that fastbreak was taking into account the number of people accepted, not the number of people who actually end up attending

YES! LET IT BE THE FOURTEENTH!

mynameisrose, if we both land up at Brown, we have to be music buddies :)

"fastbreak, It is worse than that. the incomming class is 1500, not 2800. "

Whoops! I meant to write that Brown will have ~2800 admits (but yes, a 1500 incoming class). Wouldn’t change my projected admit rate, though.

absolutely tetris!
i don’t know if brown does it, but my friend who’s a freshman at yale did this really cool thing that in the spring of senior year in hs they each got a partner and sent them a cd with their favourite songs. i love music and find it really interesting to find out what other people like to listen to, so if (or WHEN!) we get in we should totes do that.

Yes, I’ve heard of that! Music exchange :). We absolutely have to do it if we get in. Only…I live a couple of continents away from most of you guys :p
