What are some benefits of the brown 8-year over a 7 year program or a traditional undergrad and then med school experience? For those of you that are actually a part of the program, how do you guys find the difficulty of work to be?
I’m assuming you’re talking about PLME? The benefit is being able to explore your interests outside of science/medicine during undergrad, while still having the guarantee of going to medical school after. My friends in traditional undergrad experiences were often super stressed about academics and doing well in science courses, or had to complete post-baccs afterward.
Over a 7-year program, I’d say that PLME gives you the ability to really have a real undergrad experience. Students in 7-year programs are generally kept in courses just with other students in their program, and don’t have the opportunity to do things like study outside science or go abroad, since they’re crunched for time.
