Brown Accelerated Medical School

Hello All,

I have heard that Brown has an accelerated 8 Year Medical Program. However, from my knowledge of medical schools, 8 years is the norm-why is it considered accelerated? Isn’t it the same as 4 years of undergrad + 4 years medical school = 8 years? Unless it includes the residency. Anyway, I am rising senior in high school and would like to apply to accelerated medical programs. However, I need more information on this program. I cant find it online anywhere so if you could link it that’d be great but if you could EXPLAIN it to me that’d be even GREATER and I’d appreciate it so much :)

It’s 8-year, so it’s not accelerated. For more information on PLME, take a look at the website.

If you want to look at other programs that might be shorter than 8 years, there’s a forum here on CC all about combined programs.

Are you also asking why do 8-year med instead of undergrad and then med school?? If so, the biggest advantage is that it guarantees a student’s admission to Brown’s med school without having to take the MCAT. I would say that’s the most significant advantage.

I think you may complete them at the same time?
