does it mean anything? I don’t have it either
no, nothing means anything. only status update means anything
Lol my reading between the lines is going to drive me insane
me too. Been refreshing my portal and this thread way too much.
I think I’m gonna go ahead and log off of CC for today because it is making me sooo much more stressed than I need to be.
I wish you all the best of luck tomorrow, but remember that no matter what happens, your the things that you have achieved the last 4 years have been important and impactful; one college’s decision does not mean otherwise.
Here’s to hoping that we’re all in that accepted 16%!!!
thats a good idea. good luck to all. withdrawal option is gone for me too:)) anyone still has that?
The people on here seem like great people. You all would make great future classmates for my daughter. No wonder they call Brown the “Happy Ivy”.
I hope everyone on here gets into Brown. Good luck tomorrow.
How does rescinding an offer work, exactly? My lowest grade thus far has been a B+ but I’m taking a couple of really difficult courses this year, more than before – if I had two Bs on my final report card, would they take back any potential offers?
No there’s no way they’ll rescind for 2 Bs. its only if u get a D or something like that
No one has ever got rescinded for a couple of B’s. You will be fine.
someone at my school dropped down to a b+ last year (maybe last last year) and an admissions officer from the school notified our guidance counselor. So you might be hearing from them to basically get your act together, but I don’t really think it’ll go farther than that
@hoopy12009 what high school? Doubtful.
Copied from my admission letter: “Please note that this offer of admission is contingent upon your maintaining an academic and social record at the same level that has brought you admission to Brown.”
Basically, if you had straight As when applying to Brown, straight Bs and Cs could be cause for concern. On the other hand, someone admitted with multiple Bs wouldn’t be expected to magically get straight As their senior year. I wouldn’t worry unless you got multiple Cs or failing grades, just make sure to keep your grades up!
Good luck to everyone opening their ED decisions tomorrow!
Some logistical stuff:
Decisions release at 2 pm Eastern Time. If you’re already logged into your application portal when decisions release, you’ll need to reload the page for the “status update” to show up. There is another button to click before viewing your decision after logging in. You can access your applicant portal at the following link: Brown Applicant Portal. Make sure that you have setup an account (or reset your password if you’ve forgot it) so you don’t have to deal with that when decisions release.
Some thoughts about decisions:
-
Admitted: Congrats!! Your financial aid award letter, if you applied for aid, will be accessible via a link to Banner Self-Service in your applicant portal. It might take a few days after decisions release for the FA Office to finalize award letters, and keep in mind that you DO NOT have to commit to Brown without receiving your FA award first. You’ll also receive a physical admissions letter in the mail, though this may be delayed due to COVID (RD packages were mailed over the summer). SAO (the Student Activities Office) emailed student club leaders letting us know that they have some virtual events planned for ED and RD admits, so stay tuned for that!
-
Deferred: This is NOT a rejection. The Admissions Office might want further information about you (keep those 1st semester grades up!) or want to compare you in the context of the RD pool before making a final decision. There are also a limited number of spots available in the ED pool, since a good portion are reserved for recruited athletes that are admitted ED: this isn’t really the case RD. Multiple applicants, including myself, were admitted RD after being deferred, so stay positive! I strongly recommend writing a LOCI (Letter of Continued Interest, you can find examples/guidance online). I waited until after Winter Break to submit mine (uploaded in my applicant portal) and included some updates with my ECs + some courses I was taking at the local CC, and reiterated my interest in attending Brown if admitted (if you can include a line or two about what specifically drew you to Brown, that’s great!) Unless you truly find another school a better (prestige is NOT a good reason, IMO) fit for you, I wouldn’t recommend applying ED2, but definitely anywhere you’d be interested in attending RD.
-
Rejected: This sucks, I know. However, don’t take this as a reflection of yourself or the strength of your application: college admissions is random for most applicants at the best of times and we’re definitely in an unusual situation right now. Take a day or two to reflect on your decision, but know that Admissions’ priorities can be very different from school to school, and even between years: you might be admitted at another place and find that you’re a better fit there! My advice is pretty much the same as for deferred applicants: keep your grades up, don’t apply ED2 unless you truly love the school and can afford it, and apply widely RD (safeties, matches, and reaches). Just remember that the college you go to is not going to stop you from pursuing the career you want to, and that most importantly, YOU GOT THIS!! Good luck!!
Basically I go to a vocational magnetic school and I’m pretty sure that student maintained As throughout high school. But then I think it was the sudden drop (probably because of senioritis tbh) that got them concerned.
Today’s the day, everyone! I hope you all slept more than I did lol
Thank you for starting this discussion thread @PikachuRocks15. You have been an inspiration. Your last bit of advice no matter which way the decision pendulum swings is just awesome!
Yup 5 hours to go–good luck all!!!
this is super helpful. thanks. after seeing yale’s wacky ED decisions, i dont have much hope for admission
wait what happened with Yale lol?
