Brown ED INTERVIEWS! :)

Did anybody in Northern California get an interview? :(

it was more of a conversation than it was an "interview." it lasted a little over an hour, but the time really flew by; we were actually having a good time (at least i was lol).
the only questions he really asked were:
where do you see yourself in 10/20 years?
why do you like brown?
why should brown choose you, and how would you add to the brown environment, and what would brown be missing if you were not accepted?
what are your academic interests? (i replied math and science, and he then asked me what my interests in the liberal arts are)
what are your non-academic interests?
and he ended it with, "to sum up our conversation, how would you want me to make your case for brown as a match for you?"
i had several questions for him, including the ones fireandrain recommended. but i also asked if he knew chris berman (an espn anchor) who graduated in the same class as him and a few other wacky questions that aren't so objective

oh and he also asked where else i'm applying and where brown ranks among them. i said (thinking that that was a little nosy but not really taken aback or offended) something like, "plme is ed, so it's my number one choice. regular brown is non-binding, but it's still up there on my list, following the northwestern hpme and rice/baylor." and then he's like "what non-med programs are you applying to?" i said "oh, um, some other ivy leagues including harvard, princeton, and penn's vagelos program." i'm applying to 15 total, but i only mentioned those

15?!?!!? o_o

I didn't edit myself when it came to talking about other schools. I made it verrrry clear that I was torn between Yale and Brown, but then I made the cheezy sum-up with, "but when I saw the Why Yale? essay, I didn't know what to write. When I saw the Why Brown? essay, it flowed right out. And that's how I knew it was Brown for me."

Which is actually true. >.<

Well, I finally got the email tonight. He says he wants to meet at Panera sometime this week, but he hasn't given me a time/date. I guess he wants to leave it up to me?

As soon as I saw the email though, i started getting nervous. I don't even know why because I've kept my cool about it until now. Ahhh, one more month guys.

I am applying ED and have received my login info and everything but I have not gotten contacted by anyone for an interview. I know that there is at least one person in my area who does alumni interviews for Brown (they are supposedly a friend of a friend). I really want to have an interview and I am even willing to do one over the phone. How much longer should I wait before I begin to pursue this (call the office of admissions, etc..?).

I just got my email yesterday, and some people haven't even gotten theirs yet. I think someone else said earlier on here that the interviewers don't need to turn anything in until December 1st. I'd keep cool for another couple of weeks. If you still don't get anything by Thanksgiving weekend, then give them a call.

I have yet to be contacted.

My interviewer called me a couple days ago. She seemed really nice! I'm interviewing on Thursday... I'm nervous! Especially since we decided to meet at a Cosi next to the Capitol (I live near DC) at 6pm-- little does she know, I got my license a week ago... city driving... at night... yikes

I would recommend that if you haven't heard from an interviewer by Nov. 20, and want an interview, you should contact Brown. My impression is that almost every applicant has been uploaded to the website, and it really is just whether the area chairs and interviewers have done their work getting the information.

If you are deferred ED, and did not have an interview, you can still have one that will be considered during RD.

dreamlittle, can you take public transportation? If not, if I were you I'd leave plenty of time to get into DC, like plan on arriving 30 minutes or more before the interview, so you're not jumpy from the driving experience during the interview.

i got an e-mail two days ago and my interview is scheduled for tomorrow! i thought there would be at least a week between being contacted and actually being interviewed so i feel unprepared somehow. i hope the interviewer and i click and can have a pretty normal conversation.

I just got the call from my interviewer -- I'm spazzing, but in a good way! He's '98, and seemed very nice. He called and was like, "How are you?" and I said, "I'm excited!" He laughed.

My friend had hers last Friday from a guy she said was really old and kept mentioning that his wife was in the car waiting to go to lunch, ahaha. It was a weird first interview experience for her but I think it still went well. I can't wait for mine!

Does anyone have anymore suggestions on questions to ask your interviewer?

Also, how much does the interviewer know about the applicant before the interview -- just name and contact number? Or is it possible they've seen our applications/essays/etc. also?

They don't know about the essays. Only name, contact, intended major, and perhaps some other general stuff.

My interviewer started out by explaining what the aim of the whole conversation was - he stressed a lot on the fact that Brown was very laid-back - and then got the ball rolling by asking me to talk about school. (I had to explain the local education system a bit; he was quite concerned that I'd only had essentially O-level grades for some subjects thanks to the local 11-year system)

He asked a few more questions on my intended major and a bit on ECs, then let me ask some questions. I approached those from an Asian perspective since I figured it would be more relevant for the both of us.

Gah I wish I wasn't so nervous.

This is what the interviewers know about you: Name, address, phone, email, male or female, high school, area of concentration (i.e. major) and sports/school activities. The last two are taken directly from your application. We don't see essays, SAT scores, recommendations. And we're not supposed to.

dianabelle, I'd love to know your friend's definition of "really old."

Finally got a phone call!! I'm so psyched now but I sounded like a complete idiot on the phone because I was maybe overly excited a bit...

interview tomorrow!!
nervous to say the least haha

I just got a phone call today and set up my interview for tomorrow!

Very exciting to say the least.

Still haven't heard. Getting anxious...

i had my interview on thursday. i dont know if i'd say it went well or not. it was planned for wednesday, and i got there to find out he was running late with something, so his receptionist told me to come back tommorrow. then in the middle of the interview he asks me about applying to plme. to which i replied.........wait, what? (i applied for regular ed brown) it threw me off a little.

i had my interview last sunday in a mall. my interviewer was an orthopedic surgeon from nyc and was amazing. i think we had a pretty cool conversation.
