Hi guys,
I love Brown and Yale equally but I feel like I’m most likely going to get rejected from Yale since I don’t have a strong hook (major competition, 1st gen, URM, etc.) With Brown, I feel like if I apply ED, I have a higher chance of getting in. The problem is, I don’t know whether financial aid at Brown is going to be bad, and since it’s binding, I will have to go there. Plus, I’ll never know if I got into Yale… Should I apply to Brown ED or Yale SCEA? (I know it’s ultimately my choice).
Stats:
4.0 GPA
10/400 rank
35 ACT
800 Bio, Chem, Math, 770 US History SAT Subjects
National AP Scholar, National Merit Semi-Finalist
Club leadership
Varsity sport
Summer internship/volunteering
Solid rec, solid essay, nothing WOW
Please help! >_<
If you really want to get into one of them, AND your family can afford it even if you get “bad” financial aid, then it sounds like Brown ED is the better choice.
Child applied early action to Yale (deferred) then regular decision to Brown. Accepted regular decision Yale denied regular decision Brown. Did applying early action to Yale help, who knows? Don’t try to game the system do what you really want to do.
If you really need to compare financial aid offers, don’t apply ED.
If you want to compare financial aid offers then applying ED to Brown may not be wise.
It is correct that you won’t be able to compare packages if you apply ED. But Brown is a 100% meet need school if this gives some comfort, if that is your choice.
^^^I agree, but not every school’s idea of meeting full need will be the same.
Personally. I think it won’t make a difference. Ivies are really a crapshoot for everyone. Like someone said earlier, someone who got Yale can get rejected at Brown.
Tips: Brown is looking for a human person. One who shows he or she is truly a person underneath the application. Yale is looking for the intellectually vital assiduous person who loves to learn. Your choice to decide. Good luck!
If it’s really equal, don’t apply early to either so that you can apply to both and if accepted, use ADOCH/Bulldog Day (I think that’s what Yale calls accepted student day) to make the decision.
Thanks guys! Lots of helpful insight
