Brown interview FAQ and answers

Hey fireandrain,
I had an interview scheduled for Thursday over the phone. I waited for a few hours and he never called. I then sent my interviewer and email and he said he had forgotten, and that he would call me the next day at a certain time. He forgot and rescheduled it AGAIN. Finally, last night, he forgot for the third time. Now he will not email me and schedule a new one.
I know that the interview does not make or break an applicant, but I feel it is somewhat important from what I have read on here. I was wondering if you have any idea on what I should do.
I really wanted to have the interview, as all the other people I know who applied to Brown have already had theirs.
Thank you so much!

@ hznrk1234: Interview “season” has closed, although if he did call you back, then I guess they might still let him submit his interview. I’m sorry you had that experience. I would contact Brown admissions re this, just to let them know what happened. Hopefully they will take this interviewer off of the list for next year. Also letting them know will make sure that there is no error in your file re your wanting an interview and being available. Believe me, in this case, the lack of interview will not reflect in anyway negatively for you in your application. Hopefully you will get a chance to meet some Brown Alums who will give you a more positive impression!

Thank you so much!
He did tell me that the forms were due on the 15th in his email, but he also explained that since it’s a long weekend, he does not have to submit them on time.
I am a little upset because so much has happened since I submitted my application, and I wanted to have a chance to tell my interviewer about it.
Thank you so much for your reply, and I will be sure to call Brown admissions office about this.

BrownAlumParent- is the interview season over for international students as well? My son was among the few from his school who wasn’t contacted for an interview. What can that mean?

^ A couple of years ago when I did international interviews, those had the same submission deadline as US. I don’t know if that has changed. However, I would not be concerned if he was not contacted. Even though there were other students from his school who had interviews, they may not have had enough interviewers to reach all the people in your area. Not having been assigned an interviewer will in no way hurt his chances of admission.
I would have him make sure that he is “reachable”, for other info getting to him from Brown. Make sure contacts from “unknown” e-mail addresses can still get to him and are not routed into a spam filter box, or that he checks the spam area regularly to make sure he doesn’t miss something like an alumnus trying to reach him. Also make sure that any phone numbers listed are correct and answered.
Otherwise, not to worry, re no interview!

Brown Alumparent- Thanks
he got the interview call yesterday. Apparently the interviewer has been travelling. Hope it goes well.

Sorry! Pl. ignore this message.

Thanks for the information, it makes me want to apply to brown more.

I had Brown interview via email. The interviewer sent me questionaire which I had to answer within 48 hours

@fireandrain In your initial post you mentioned that most every one is interviewed, except students at certain prep schools. Can you clarify what you meant by that? Thanks.

Also, we are going for a Brown visit very soon. We are taking the tour, of course, but are there any “Must Sees” around the campus or the town?

I can’t answer your first question, but I can help with “must sees!”

-Spend time in Faunce House (the Blue Room cafe) and people-watch, since that’s a huge student hangout for both socializing and studying
-Academic buildings in the department your student would be a part of
-If your student knows someone, it’d be a good idea to talk to them and possibly see a dorm room

At certain prep schools, most typically ones that are located in more rural areas, there are so many students applying (dozens, even) and too-small of a local population of Brown alums to interview them. These are typically schools that have a long-term relationship with Brown and the guidance counselor at the school can pick up the phone and chat with someone in admissions.

If you go to one of these schools, you probably know it.

I wonder why I am not getting any interview scheduling mails

Slaybelle: because interviews are over. Some students just don’t get them. It happens, and it won’t affect your application.

swag, got accepted

Crazy: when? How did you find out so early?

this may seem petty, but how important is posture during an interview? obviously no slouching or anything like that, but is it too much to lean back or lean forward a little? thanks!!:)

Be yourself and try to relax. It’s not the posture, as much as not appearing disinterested, disengaged, or way too nervous.

I also have a couple of questions concerning applying to Brown, if I could contact you by other private means, that would be highly appreciated
