I’d find it hard to believe that brown or columbia’s FA would be substantially different from Harvard’s

Gotcha, I didn’t mean to be harsh if I came off that way. I was just hoping that you both had considered it. Good luck to your daughter, wherever she ends up next year!

@Williams95, No offense taken. I wish you well also. There can be a difference in aid from the 3 schools. I was surprised to hear thi from others on CC. When distributing financial aid Harvard tends to give out more Financial Aid. I will have to see in the near future.

She doesn’t take away accepts from others. Each school carefully sets their total admits and waitlists carefully – fully anticipating some drop off. They never have empty Freshman beds come Sept.

Unless she were just vain and just counting trophy admits (doesn’t appear to be), then the reasons stated seem perfectly valid. GL to your family Dreamweaver

T26E4–Thanks for the validating reply, We never expected the likely’s or even to get in to these great schools. We feel very blessed for the results. On a side note- My D completed all 3 applications in October because we did not want her to lose confidence if she got deferred or rejected at Harvard. Good luck to all

If you get an offer and FA from Harvard but prefer another Ivy, be sure to ask them to match the Harvard offer. My understanding is that they usually will – even if the original offers were far apart. Worked for us at Dartmouth.

@Aboutthe same, Thanks for the info, Brown Did say they would match. What happens in year 2,3,4? Will your Financial aid then go up to Browns standard? just wondering.

D is a 13. Aid has stayed basically the same percentage for all four years. School asked for updates the second & third years, and adjusted the aid accordingly – up one year and down the other (when I foolishly cashed out some vacation time, so our income went “up”). With tuition/etc. increases, that means we’ve still paid a bit more each year but it has seemed fair to me. If our financial circumstances had changed more significantly, I would not have hesitated to ask for a review of the award, but it’s been manageable.

Actually, I believe all the Ivies have a policy of matching FA offers – but that’s one reason why it’s especially nice to get a good one from Harvard as your starting point.

Hey guys, how well will Brown cover my financial needs? My parents make 31k together… and cannot pay a single dime… how much money do you guys think Brown will pay? That’s all that has been on my mind since I got the LL.

If your parents make that little, Brown should cover all of your costs, or at least very close to it. All Ivies meet 100% of calculated need.

I got one today in the mail! i loved the flaps that had picture of the gate, so i felt like opening the gates when i tried to see what was inside the hardpapet
