Brown Oceanography

I know Brown has an oceanography program, but does anybody know how good it is? I’m looking for a lot of research opprotunities. Thanks!

Undergrad or graduate?

undergrad

Brown doesn’t have a program specifically focused on oceanography. Most of the relevant coursework and research seems to be in marine biology in the Ecology & Evolutionary Biology department. There is also some in the Earth Sciences dept. Both of these departments have a research relationship with Woods Hole, mostly at the graduate level. Both departments are strong in their respective areas, but it doesn’t appear there is a huge amount of oceanographic activity. If you can get admitted to Brown, you can certainly get admitted to other schools that have much more extensive teaching and research focused on oceanography.

There isn’t a specific undergrad oceanography program or concentration. The closest you could get would probably be a degree in Geology-Biology (http://www.brown.edu/academics/earth-environmental-planetary-sciences/undergraduate-program/undergraduate-concentrations). There are a few oceanography courses that you could take, but most of an oceanography degree would be at the PhD level, not undergrad.

Thank you! Looks like I have to do more research!
