Brown PLME..didn't take science SAT subjects?

I am applying to PLME but I took SAT Chinese with Listening. got 800. and Math I. got 740.
I took Biology as well but I didn’t have time to prepare for it so I just got a 6xx.
My SAT I in June is not very well but I retook it in Dec and will be taking it again in Jan.

This means that even tho I have enough scores for SAT I, I won’t have the chance to retake SAT subjects. Should I not even apply then? :(

Did you take any other science standardized tests, such as AP or IB? If so, then I think you’d be ok. If you don’t have anything of that sort, you may want to rethink applying for PLME as they really want to see those test scores.

yes I took higher level chemistry and biology. got a predicted 7 (chem) and a 6 (biology). how many students do they take every year in the PLME program?

About 100-110 students are admitted each year, with about a 50% yield. I believe that my PLME class has about 52 students right now.

Could you tell me more about your applications? Like what medical experience do you have? In my country, it is very difficult to ask for doctors shadowing. My grades aren’t the best but I really want to give it a shot.

I think that medical experience/shadowing/volunteer work (maybe even intrinsic passion?) could definitely shine more on an application than science subject tests. I submitted an ACT score and only started taking science APs my senior year of high school (scores weren’t available yet).

Ultimately, what weighs more with the decision is how you portray yourself in the essay questions. However, you should definitely send your 800 and 740 scores because they will only add to your application. If you can, take one or two science-related subject tests, but don’t count yourself out if you can’t.

thanks for your reply! i took Biology but it was really bad. Does Brown require all tests scores to be sent?

Yes - Brown doesn’t accept Score Choice, so they’ll see all of your scores when you send just the one.

I’d also warn you that PLME admissions tends to be very difficult for international students. I know very, very few internationals in the program.

^ This is policy with US Med schools for international applicants in general.

Plus your 800 in Chinese is not very impressive seeing you’re applying from China.

@T26E4 I’m not exactly from China, I study in an international school with students over 80 nationalities in Hong Kong, and our language of teaching is English.

But Cantonese was your first language, right?

yes, you’re right, canto, mando and english

OK – cantonese mastering mandarin is great! Congrats.

But unfortunately, it’s still very difficult for non-US to be admitted to US medical schools.
