Does anyone have experience with this program? My son has to decide between doing Brown PLME or Yale (reg undergrad). He likes both schools.

if he's sure he wants to be a doctor, he should choose PLME. Brown has an awesome undergrad experience that rivals Yale's and a guaranteed spot in med school is definitely worth having.

Wow... I'd say Brown PLME especially if he knows 100% he wants to be a doctor. Yale is a fantastic school, but having a guaranteed spot in Brown's med school beats that hands down. There's also the benefit of no MCATs. PLME is much harder to get into.

does the Brown PLME allow him to apply to other medical schools?

Yes, from what I remember he can apply to other medical schools, but that generally should be looked down upon.

No; if he applies to other medical schools while in the PLME, he is no longer granted automatic admission to Brown Med.

PLME is the best program possible for future doctors. If your son is dead set on being a doctor, def. PLME. It has to be one of the hardest programs for any student to get into. Yale is a great school, but the guarentee of Brown Med School is uncomparable for future doctors. If he doesnt know what he wants to be, still go PLME! Brown and Yale aren't too far apart...

Thanks everyone. He seems set on PLME - just waiting to receive the PLME packet in the mail (coz I keep asking him questions about the program). He loves Brown - spent 2 summers there. Guess it's good he didn't get into Yale EA or he may not have applied to Brown or anywhere else. He wasn't even going to do the PLME application coz he thought he wouldn't get in and he was burned out from all the other apps. For those applying next year, I strongly suggest starting apps (or at least essays) early, maybe in the summer. My son was away at Gov School in the summer and just didn't have time.
