Do they interview for this program? How many accepted, applied, etc?

don't believe they interview for it.. it's based solely on app

1400 applied, 103 accepted to PLME, 116 into regular Brown undergrad

67 matriculate into PLME

http://bms.brown.edu/plme/Requirements.html

I've always found it extremely odd that they don't interview...I mean, they're accepting you into medical school and they don't even know what you're like.

at least they have a picture of you

ive just recently ran into these threads and was wondering if anyone would care to explain what the brown plme is and the northwestern hpme? are they just accelerated med programs?? and how you heard about them?

only hpme is an accelerated program, since you complete undergrad and med school in 7 years instead of 8. PLME is more tradition, lasting the whole 8 years. The advantage to this is that you're getting into med school now without the burden of MCATs and GPA requirements.

the disadvantage is that you can't apply out (i think..) and brown's med school is pretty poorly ranked.

i think you can apply out.. but then you lose your spot in their med school

I know it's hard to compare med-schools since they're all pretty good...but which is known to have better reputation, Brown or Jefferson?

prolly brown. ranking wise, they are equal, so I would give it to Brown just cause of the ivy name

Actually, many people in the medical field that I have recently spoken with tell me that Jefferson is a more well known and respected medical school....

jeffereson has a 6 year program with penn state does it not

yea...a 6 or 7 yr option

Any stats on Browns last years PLME class? Stats such as geographic distribution, SAT scores etc. etc.
Any info will be appreciated.

hey, I notice a lot of u on the BU and HPME threads, obviously u have applied to them all, which would u go to if accepted to all?

HPME, by far!

what's ur reasoning sanguine?

I applied only to PLME and Penn State/Jefferson. I would probably go to the Jefferson program no matter what because it's accelerated, offers more me more chances for taking electives I want, and is cheaper (the most important reason!).

Northwestern has a much better medical school than does Brown -- a greater emphasis on research and cutting edge medicine. Brown seems more primary care based. US News rankings for research and primary care confirm this.

Also, NW is a 7 year program, saving a year's worth of tuition, and like Brown, is a flexible program, letting you major in whatever you want. You are allowed to extend it to 8 years if you wish.

Also, NW as a whole offers more opportunities for me, and I stress that this is for me before I get flamed. I'm looking to get an MBA with my MD, and Kellogg is a top-notch business school.

Plus, I like Chicago. :)

twas a good pitch for NW, i hope i get in :)

and ya, the school of medicine being right in downtown chicago is a major plus
