Brown SAT scores

I’m looking at Brown’s SAT score ranges, and compared to the other Ivies, the 25th percentile range is rather low. Why is that?

“why is that”

Well it’s self explanatory isn’t it? It says Brown admits more people with lesser scores than some of its peers. Your point is???

Well Brown is more selective than Cornell and U Penn, so I’m just curious why Brown’s average standardized test scores are so low. Is the SAT less important at Brown because my scores are much higher than Brown’s averages, which I find rather odd.

I know Brown is the most liberal of the Ivies and does it have to do with how the admissions would feel that I could handle the Open Curriculum? I would love to go to Brown because it has a great Computer Science program but the SAT range they posted on College Board doesn’t seem realistic for a school of Brown’s caliber.

Since when are SAT scores the be-all and end-all of determining the value/caliber of a college? Are you suggesting that because the 25 percentile is lower, that means the student body is “stupider” and not worthy of your attendance? Why do you equate SAT scores with selectivity?

I honestly have no idea why Brown’s 25th percentile is “low,” but one factor might be that Brown has an institutional goal of admitting first-generation college students, and often students who are first-gen have lower SAT scores because of their socio-economic circumstances.

Also, selectivity and admissions rate refer to the no. of kids who apply – nothing about their academic profiles.

Perhaps your question is whether the broader SAT spectrum that Brown accepts affects the overall quality or, more likely, its “prestige”. I’d say no.

Plus, if you attend, you’ll never have a discussion about HS GPA or SAT ever again. Everyone is a blank slate. How about 'dem apples?

If the 25 percentile is lower, I have a better chance of getting in! Those apples are good, especially when I can taste them after I get accepted, if I do. :)

Brown= Big Ivy name prestige= good education and a good programming job making 100k+ after graduation :D

^Is that it?

Unless you are a recruited athlete, URM, or first generation college student, odds are the lower end of the SAT spectrum for a given school does not impact you much.
